I will start with the negatives because I think those things need to be addressed. Aside from these negatives, I love everything about having this GoPro Hero 6. Cons - Freezes up often and needs a hard reset (pull out battery and put back in). I dont know why this occurs even after the most recent firmware update. Its quite disappointing. I wouldnt say it freezes EVERY time, but there was time I was snorkeling and it froze up on me, I was filming in a lake and it froze, and I was at a pool and it froze. Being in the water and having it freeze is the most annoying because you can't do anything about it until you go all the way back to your spot to dry off and reset it. When its working and not freezing, its great! But it is very frustrating when it freezes. - Battery life isnt great. Luckily when I bought this through bestbuy, the deal was it came with a free spare battery which I HIGHLY recommend you get if you dont have one already. I film at 2k and 60fps, and after a lot of start and stop recording, and pictures in between, you can hit 50% battery life in under 3 hours. Its not terrible, but having a spare is a must. - Often glitchy interface. The interface is relatively easy to use and figure out, but it will sometimes glitch out and be stuttery and laggy. In todays age of smartphones, it seems a little unacceptable to have an UI be this laggy and slow. The touchscreen is very responsive and nice, but the software running under it isnt as fast as it should be. - Lastly for the cons, (this is only situationaly) is if youre upgrading from anything under the GoPro hero 5, then youre going to need all new cases and some new accessories because the build is changed. If you have the hero 5 and are upgrading, you dont have to worry. But if you have the 4, and are upgrading, some of your accessories may not be compatible with this new formfactor. Now onto the good stuff PROS + There is no better action camera on the market. Some people might tell you the Yi 4K+ or the Sony MX are on equal ground or even above GoPro. And while they may be cheaper alternatives, you certainly get what you pay for. With ProTune, you get exactly the look you want in your pictures and videos. Everyone has different preferences, and you can edit all the aspects of your video from color balance and iso, to white balance and shutter speed. The shots you can get (and edit) with GoPro are by far and away better than anything the Yi can produce. Sony is catching up, but right now, GoPro is still your best bet if youre trying to get the best action shots. And I assume if youre looking at buying the hero6, youre not just the average joe looking to film a dog walk in the park. If you do water sports like me, or like going on adventures and capturing those adventures, this is the camera for you. ++++++ VIDEO STABILIZATION. A quick youtube video search will tell you everything there is to know about the video stabilization on the hero6. This feature in itself makes it worth the upgrade from the 5 to the 6. I wont even talk about it that much more. Just go look at comparisons on youtube and youll understand. This is the BEST feature about this camera. + Waterproof without casing. While I did buy the underwater supersuit ($50) because of the way I use my gopro, most people will be able to get away with not using the supersuit, because the gopro itself is waterproof up to 10 meters. That means its perfect for at the pool, in the snow, or anything where there might be moisture or rain. Again, if youre like me and do a lot of snorkeling and water stuff, I do recommend the supersuit. But its nice that the gopro is waterproof by itself. BOTTOM LINE: This is a 5 star product, that is boggled down -2 stars because of poor software optimization. Do I recommend this? Yes. But I definitely will be the first to point out the frustrating flaws this camera often has. While the freezing is unacceptable for this price point and this day in tech age, it is not a completely deal breaking thing for me. It may be one for you. I've learned to just slow down while going through settings and modes. The faster I go, the more likely I'll seize up the software and cause a freeze. Just slow down choosing your modes and youll be fine. The shots I've gotten with this have been fantastic. If you can deal with a little frustration every now and then, you're getting the best in the business.

      Amazing Video and Stabilization

By far this is the best GoPro ever. I wasn't sure if this camera would be a big enough upgrade to the Hero5 Black. It's a HUGE upgrade. Everything is better with the Hero6 and it's noticeable right away. Not only are you getting double the frame rates with 4K/60 and 1080/240, but everything just looks so much better! Stability is amazing and the color is outstanding. The GoPro color is vibrant and beautiful. If you color grade in post like I do, and prefer the flat profile, the Hero6 gives you so much more to work with compared to other similar cameras including the Hero5. GoPro smartly got rid of the narrow and medium fov and instead added the ability to ZOOM. Essentially it's the same as using these modes but you have much more flexibility in how close or far you want the sensor to crop, plus you can see exactly what the effect will be as you adjust the zoom/fov. Voice activation to turn on the camera and start recording is a big plus (firmware update is required and available now with the GoPro app) along with all of the usual voice activations found in the Hero5 cameras. All of the features of the Hero5 are also found on the Hero6. Waterproof, LCD back screen, GPS, RAW photo, manual ISO and shutter, stereo and wind resistance plus Protune audio, auto cloud updating, Quik Story, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, and selective spot metering/ light adjustment. The difference is, Hero6 does all of these things better. A lot better. The touch screen is more responsive. ISO can be set to max 100 with the shutter on auto. Wi-Fi connection and transfer is significantly faster. Audio is clear and more accurate. Light balance and low light are much better. If you don't have the ability to edit RAW photos the new HDR gives rich blacks and brighter whites than the Hero5 Black WDR. If you are thinking about getting an action cam that can also be used as an everyday shooter, this is the camera to get. If you are on the fence about upgrading from your Hero5, it's worth it. If you are still using a Hero4 or even a Hero3+, now is the time to upgrade, you truly don't know what you're missing and won't regret getting this camera. In short, I am impressed!

I bought this mainly to use while riding my motorcycle. I read where others complained of vibration in the video, however I've found the built-in stabilization works amazingly well on my ninja 1000. Even when I see the camera shaking as i go down the road, the video turns out excellent. While riding I get about 45 minutes to 1 hour of recording time. However, that's with Wi-Fi bluetooth and gps turned off. With all those functions on i get 20-30 minutes tops. Extra battery and charger is a must. I use 1080 / 60fpm (default setting) and the video quality is amazing to me. Shooting video in poor light or outside at night is not something I'd recommend, video gets grainy quickly. But outside during the day this camera has no equal for quality video. I've taken lots of video with my phone over the years but it doesn't come close to what this camera is capable of. You can buy cameras much cheaper than this one but I don't know if they give the same beautiful results either. Where price hurts is buying the accessories for it. Once you start to experiment with everything this camera can do, you're gonna want/need the accessories. Get a large memory card (I got a 128 GB) because even at 1080 this thing eats through memory like crazy. You're gonna need a big hard drive on whatever device you download your video onto also. Overall, this camera is great. Just takes a little practice to get used to then it's simple to use. Great video quality. Small enough to carry in a pocket. Does reasonably well on batteries for it's size/ability. I can't wait to take it on my vacation this summer.

so i will try to make this review short. ive got this camera like a month after it was released and oh man i was pleasantly surprised with the improvement over my trusty hero 4 black. all the specs you can find out there so theres no need for me to talk about it and try to make me look very knowledgeable expert or something. i was excited about this awesome camera because finally, 4k 60 fps in such a compact tiny but yet durable body camera! hold on wait.. i know all of you camera expert would say "there was already the very first action camera that able to shoot in 4k 60fps duuhh" which is yes i know, yi 4k plus but the reason why i waited for gopro was because i have hero 3 black then 4 black too so i wanted to stick with gopro not to mention all the gopro accesories that i have so no please dont call me a fan boy because iam not a fan of any brand, i repeat not a single one because i believe in quality over name brand or something like that. the stabilization on this camera is almost like using a real steadycam or gimbal! eventhough it crop your footage more than 12 percent but ohh man.. i was amazed! but unfortunatelly it will not work when you shoot in higher frame rate such as 4k 60fps while my iphone 8plus can do it (common gopro?!) for anyone who have hero 4 black or older generation gopros and wanting to upgrade to hero 6, it is worth the money. i know 500usd (399 now!) is still alot of money, but if you think of this way, a small and powerfull camera (even better than the older gopros) that can be placed almost anywhere, take everywhere and fit in your pocket? you will not find any better solution than this unless you really need the better low light performance action cam you might wanna look into sony latest little action cam that has the rx100 sensor on it. but if you already have the hero 5, it comes down to your need, do you really need the 4k 60 fps or 1080 at 240 fps? if yes well then sell the hero 5 and get the hero 6, or just keep the hero 5 for backup just saying because once again i say it is worth the investment if you shoot alot of video of anything or if you are a content creator. this little cam is very satisfying despites of minor issues that it has. go on youtube and look it up if you still cant decide. i have some video that shot using it my channel name is denny ordinary.

I've used the camera multiple times now and feature-wise, it's everything it's advertised to be. However, I've had it freeze up a couple times while trail running and no amount or combination of button pushing, holding buttons for 30 seconds, etc., NOTHING clears the camera except stopping, taking the camera out of it's case, then removing the battery for a power-on reset. Quite annoying when in the middle of an epic multiple peak, mountain traverse, or worse yet, a race. Now here's my REAL COMPLAINT about GoPro. Support and instructions (or lack thereof) are absolutely horrible. I'm used to products not having much in the box anymore because they typically have a really nice instructional layout on a website, so it's easier to keep up with changes. Nope. Luckily, I have friends and family who own GoPros, so they have been able to help me get familiarized with various functions and features; otherwise, it may have taken me weeks to understand what was available and how to access it. Very frustrating. Next frustrating issue: When trying to simply download the video and watch on my computer, the video is herky-jerky and I find out I need a converter for the GoPro video file format. Should be no big problem, but it has been a massive headache to find something that works.. I started on the GoPro homepage, but was quickly ported to a third party, where I was absolutely besieged by ads, then my browser homepage was hijacked, etc. etc. Oh yeah, and GoPro's editing program only works with Windows 10 if you are a PC user. Bottom line, I have owned several "action cameras" and this one is easily the best, but holy cow, the rest of the package is terrible. I might recommend this to a friend, but I would certainly give a long list of caveats!

I film outdoor adventure and extreme sports videos. Mostly mountain biking. I own a Hero 4, Hero 5, and now the 6. I use the Hero 4 with a 3 axis gimbal stabilizer mounted to a Stuntman Chest mount and get awesome stabilized POV video of trails all around the United States and internationally as well. The Hero 5 has much better video quality than the Hero 4, but because of some significant design flaws regarding audio it can't be used with my gimbal as it focuses on the gimbal motor noise and proceeds to amplify the noise until it renders the audio of the film useless. The Hero 5 has electronic image stabilization, but it's not good enough to use the camera without the aid of a gimbal. The Hero 6 is an improvement of an exponential magnitude vs the Hero 5. I have used this camera several times while on a mountain bike adventure in Australia and am blown away by the smoothness and stability of the footage produced without the use of a gimbal. It's so good I don't bother to use the gimbal with it. That's one less piece of equipment to worry about, one less set of batteries to carry back ups for etc. What makes it even better - the video quality is incredible. 4k 60 FPS - which WILL eat a lot of memory and will tax you computer to edit and render, but it's available and is beautiful at reproducing scenic travel shots and panoramas. I love this GoPro and couldn't be happier with my purchase. This is the camera GoPro should've released when they made the 5. Maybe their stock wouldn't have tanked if they had. If you want the best action camera and don't need 360/vr footage. The GoPro Hero 6 is the best action camera for the money.

GoPro seemed like a camera for surfers and skiers and so on so I didn't look into it until a recent trip was planned to Europe. Friends said, "You have to get a GoPro! You can do so much with it." So I researched more deeply and was convinced it would be a good investment. I bought the Hero 6 and it is an investment for sure - not as expensive as a high end SLR but still...then the accessories add a lot. The pictogram instructions left a lot to be desired. I wonder if they tested them. There is an online manual which helped a lot. I almost destroyed the camera trying to get it out of the highly secure box. There were no instructions. It is kind of like a Rubik's cube - you either get it or you don't. Took some contemplation, but I realized you have to unscrew the securing screw. Next, how the heck do I access the battery and SD card slot. Again, not obvious how to get it out of the holder. Once I finally got it all together, I was very pleased with the amazingly clear photos and videos. I have not yet used all the features. Downloading to the GoPro app and Quik app is interesting - it loads all the pictures, even the bad ones. You can edit the list later. But the Quik app makes movies of the still photos with the worst ever music accompaniment. There is a way to change the music but I have not had time to do that yet. I'll review the accessories separately. I'm happy with the quality of the camera given the size. Way better than a iPhone. Not quite as easy as an SLR but so much smaller and with at least as good or better quality. If you can afford one, go for it.

I have tested it a few times.. produced some sweet smooth video. The anti shake is worth buying this product over. The limitation is trully the ISO. it is the equivalent of a Nikon D2X of 2005. You can bump it to ISO 800 maximum. anything above produces too much noise. I have tested it only a few times and it has locked up on me several times even with the new software update. This review is incomplete as I have only had it for a week or so. I attached it to my cars window glass outside and took if for a spin on the freeway at 2k and 120 frames per second. I also took it on the bumpy streets and its buttery smooth. That is by far its strongest point. I am yet to shove it in the water in a sandy place and see if Sand gets lodged in those tiny orifices for the internal microphones. Battery life is short, about 1.5 hours on a full charge and new battery. So have spare ones around. Mistakes happen and you will need back up batteries or a power bank to replenish the battery on installed. If the camera is installed out of your reach you run the risk of depleteing the battery while driving and not being able to acces it. It happened to me yesterday. I got stuck in slow moving traffic and I could not reach out nor stop to turn it off...I am reading about the remote and it for what I see its not 100 percent compatible with this go pro.. something having to do with start and stop recording. again this review is incomplete. so far I love the little camera but dont expect Nikon D5 Iso quality.
