    Synopsis

    Gremlins 2: The New Batch
Where the original Gremlins was a horror film spiked with comedy, Gremlins 2: The New Batch is essentially a black comedy, with a couple of horrifying touches. As the film starts, the fantastical trinket shop in Chinatown, which sold the Mogwai in the first film, is demolished by a crazed multi-media businessman called Daniel Clamp (John Glover). The heroes from the first movie, Billy (Zach Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates), happen to work for Clamp in his huge high-rise. They find the Mogwai within Clamp's building, but not before he has accidentally spawned legions of mischievous, lizard-like Gremlins. Soon, the Gremlins are wreaking havoc throughout the building. In the original film, their misdeeds were violent, but here they're also goofy and satirical. Director Joe Dante has filled the film with quick verbal and visual jokes, which, for many, makes Gremlins 2: The New Batch a satire and inversion of the typical horror film. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

      better than the first

This 1990 Gremlins sequel (which reunites the main cast with director Joe Dante) finds Billy & Kate now working at a mechanized building (owned by a hilarious John Glover) in the Big Apple. There, they are reunited with Gizmo, who has been brought their by a genetics team working in the lab after his owner passes. One thing leads to another and the title creatures make an encore appearance. Christopher Lee & future Star Trek: Voyager Robert Picardo are also funny as a genetic scientist & a stuffy executive, respectively. This has even more laughs than the first (especially once the Gremlins get their claws on genetic material), which is probably why it's the rare sequel that's better than the first.

I am really surprised they have not remade the Gremilin movies. They have remade everything else and than some. I am afraid they might rip it to shreds though. These are classics, and there are a few younger people that know who they are, which was surprising to me. I sat down with my now 5 year old daughter and introduced them to her. She loved them, of course the Gremlins were scary but she couldn't stop laughing at Gizmo. I like 1 more than 2, but 2 is still good. I use the theme as my ringtone.

Not As Good As the First, But Still Worthwhile

The original 'Gremlins' was such a great film, it really comes as no surprise that there wasn't any way a sequel, regardless of how good, could best it. Nonetheless, 'Gremlins 2: the New Batch' still has some great material that fans of the first film will enjoy. My personal favorite aspect of the film was Gizmo donning 'Rambo' garb to help defeat the gremlins near the end of the movie. Great bonus features on this widescreen disc. Recommended!

I loved this and the original movie when I was a child. I bought this movie for my daughter on DVD because she was wearing out the movie that was recorded on VHS tape. Now she has the original, part two and a dancing, singing gremlin-she is very happy and content. There are some violent scenes and black humor but nothing my daughter hasn't seen watching cartoons. I highly recommend this movie. Your kids will love you for it.

      A Great B Monster Movie

At its core, this is purely a fun monster movie. If you are expecting amazing acting or crazy special effects, this is not the movie for you. However, if you enjoy creature features or enjoyed the first Gremlins. Then you will definitely enjoy this movie. Warning, do not expect this to be close to as good as the original Gremlins but it is still extremely fun to watch.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch is more comedy driven this second time around but still incorporates enough horror to connect to the original movie. The new batch of gremlins was a great gift for the fans of the 1984 original. Couldn't ask for a better sequel, (spoiler alert) unless we got an aquatic or spectral Gremlin.

The original Gremlins was a minor masterpiece, and no sequel was ever going to match it in terms of quality. But this movie was fun in a different way, throwing insane concept after insane concept against the wall so we can laugh at what sticks...and also what doesn't stick.

I very much enjoyed watching this movie again. I absolutely love the adorable lil Gizmo and was amused with the movie parodies to the original Gremlins movie, Rambo films, The Wizard of Oz, Marathon Man and The Phantom of the Opera. I recommend this movie if you're a fan of slapstick comedy.
