    Planet Terror
Maverick filmmaker Robert Rodriguez details the violent struggle between a ravenous army of zombie-like humanoids who have taken control of the planet and the remaining survivors who refuse to go down without a fight. A dangerous government experiment has unleashed an abominable contamination that turns normal people into murderous mutants. Now, as an infinitely multiplying horde of frenzied psychotics flood the Texas plains, a dangerous outlaw named Wray (Freddy Rodriguez), a sexy stripper named Cherry (Rose McGowan), an unscrupulous smuggler named Abby (Naveen Andrews), and the curiously incapacitated Dr. Dakota Block (Marley Shelton) must try and make their way to the helicopter that could provide their only means of escaping to a place untouched by this nightmarish scourge that threatens to wipe out all of humankind. This nonstop action-horror hybrid originally was released as part of Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's ambitious Grindhouse double bill. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Death Proof
In Death Proof -- director Tarantino's take on such peddle-to-the-metal shockers as White Line Fever -- Kurt Russell stars as an engine-revving psychopath who prefers to take out his beautiful victims at 200 mph. Originally released into theaters on a double bill with Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror under the Grindhouse banner, Death Proof finds a group of ladies out on the town pitted against a mysterious figured named Stuntman Mike (Russell), whose vintage automobile has been partially modified to withstand even the most extreme auto collision. Though the maniacal driver himself always comes out relatively unscathed, the same certainly can't be said for the poor young lass in his passenger seat -- or anyone unfortunate enough to be on the road when the urge to kill strikes for that matter. With a list of potential road-kill candidates that includes Rose McGowan, Jordan Ladd, Rosario Dawson, and Vanessa Ferlito, Death Proof takes viewers on an adrenaline-infused drive that's as sexy as it is shocking. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Rodriguez/Tarrentino Back to Back.................

Together they have redefined the art of Independent film with hits such as Reservoir Dogs, El Mariachi, Pulp Fiction, Desperado, Sin City and Inglorious B*******. Their first combined effort was the Vampire/Action flick From Dusk Till Dawn now they bring us Grindhouse a double bill from an era long gone and a style that only these two writer/director's could pull off. Upon it's initial release Grindhouse failed to find it's audience, so the studio was forced to split the double bill and release the films separately. Rodriguez's Planet Terror did well but it was Tarrentino's Death Proof that did better. Combined they offer up the same fun filled odd ball feel that the standalone's did. The only difference is we get back all the fake trailers that were made along with it. This movie also deletes a few scenes that are intact in the extended cuts on the individual releases. Thus this is the only way to get the full theatrical experience. Having this version on blu features all of the same bonus features that appeared on the extended cuts but with a few new extra's for each film. PQ is the same as the other cuts with all the grain and print scratches that enhances the experience. AQ is a major disappointment since it is only offering a standard 5.1 surround. It's fine, but a DTS track would of been better. I for one am glad to have the complete Grindhouse as I enjoyed it as much as the extended cuts. I'm a huge fan of Tarantino so this was a definite purchase for me.

GIGANTOR fan of Rodriguez and these two movies are legendary to say the least. I will try to be the first one in the world to buy this edition. If this means I have to build a time stopping device then I will. See what I plan on doing is stopping time and picking up this edition. I will then re-start time when I am at the register and gladly pay for my copy. Another idea I have is to build a leap portal. Then I could "leap" to the release date of October 5th 2010 and buy the movie. However I am still ironing out a couple of details with this idea. For instance if I leap forward and get the movie then leap back will the movie leave my hands because in essence it hasn't come out yet? I was also thinking of just leaping forward and not coming back and just forgetting about the time I lost. But then I would miss the season premiere of The Apprentice, Glee and the Eminem concert I am supposed to go to. Also this Sunday we are making THE BEST marinated steaks from our favorite butcher. Either way I plan on figuring this out soon. Because I really want to be the first one in the world to own this. BTW I highly suggest pumpkin iced coffee.

Having owned the extended cut of Death Proof on DVD I was looking to at the least upgrade to Blu-Ray. I came across the Grindhouse Blu-Ray at a good price and bought it, knowing I would get both movies back to back as well as the trailers. Whats Good: Both films are here back to back as well as the trailers. I really enjoyed the double feature format. Planet Terror was good, all the trailers were good. Overall this far into it, it was what I was expecting with this purchase. Whats Bad: The only thing I dislike and the reason I gave this product 4 stars was I didn't enjoy the version of Death Proof on this one. I am used to seeing the extended cut by itself so when I saw this version with all of the missing bits I was let down as in my opinion the extended cut was much better. Other than my extreme nitpicking, this is still very good and I would recommend it just on the fact that both movies and trailers are here in the original presentation. However if you just want Death Proof by itself I would say get the extended cut.

Not there best work, but its two movies 1 price

Two movies, Planet Terror( by rodriguez) and Death Proof( tarrentino) I watched this thinking i would enjoy both movies, but the Tarrentino film Death Proof, was just boring. The first movie is a fun over the top action movie with its humorous segments, and fun over the top violence. I could not stop smiling and enjoying this film, that film alone makes the purchase worth it. Death Proof unfortunately is a sad follow up to a great fun movie. To go from a fun action movie that pokes fun at cheesy action movies but still remains a joy to watch , then watch a slow movie where half the movie is just girls talking nonsense and rants about life is just so horrible. The dialogue was POINTLESS, didnt help move the story further and i got bored fast that i really felt like yelling at the director. Its as if he had the girls talkin for 50 min just to have them talk, and occasionaly show there feet to fuel the directors known fetish. It was really annoying, i was bored and angry at this movie. There was only one good chase scene in the end, but it wasnt worth sitting thru the entire movie for that

GRINDHOUSE double feature is better together!

Just when it seemed like a healthy number of gritty grindhouse garbage was being regularly reissued on DVD, Tarantino & Rodriguez hit the big screen with a brand new dose of both spoof & homage to the way-out world of fantastic trash cinema. From the phony trailers by rad folks like Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie & Eli Roth to the appropriately "missing" reels in the middle of each flick, justice is surely done to the genres & sub-genres that were so educational to all the writer/directors involved. Even down to the point when Tarantino's DEATH PROOF starts to feel slow after the slam-bam of PLANET TERROR, which would be appropriate for the second feature on a double bill back in the 60s & 70s. Made to enjoy!

I bought this to replace the DVD versions. Got it for a killer price on sale, this is a good film library builder. Grindhouse refers to the movie houses that used to play all the schlock/B-moives that came out. I liked Death Proof (Tarentino) better than Planet Terror (Rodriguez). Either way Rose McGown killed it in both flicks and that alone is worth the purchase, as well as Kurt Russel's performance (why aren't these actors working more??? Come on Hollywood wake-up). Planet Terror is also of the horror gnere of injects humor into the film, paying homage to the less than stellar films that did it purely by mistake or didn't know they were so schlocky that it became humorous.

Its just a quality through and through and it stand alone, doesn't need any help. However, it makes you wonder what would happen if planet terror was an actual movie that was taken just 1 notch more seriously, with just one slight pinch more backstory i think it would have been something even more amazing, but that was not the point of this joint endeavor. But these guys are just showing off in this movie, lots off tips of the cap to the master John Carpenter and to day and time when special affects were done a bit differently and some would argue better. If you like The Thing, Dawn of the Dead and or the french connection you will enjoy this movie for certain.

You get 2 movies for the price of one. This movie is a fun throw back to the grindhouse days of choppy & really messy editing with dirty grainy film. So be warned it looks cheezy on purpose at times. The 1st movie is planet terror a campy, crazy zombie style movie & as that movie finishes you get some funny fake trailers in between before the start of the next movie. The 2nd movie is death proof, a more serious dark movie, which hols up nicely for its actual stunts used in it.
