More like a 4.5 star movie, but you can't award partial stars. About 90% of Daniel Radcliffe's adult career has been about proving he's not Harry Potter, which happens to many actors--child and adult--who make their name at the head of mega-franchises. It's a difficult transition, doubly so when you began as a child actor in one of the most acclaimed franchises in movie history (8 films!) and you had no exposure prior to that work. Fortunately, Radcliffe chooses amazing, quirky, left-field movies that demonstrate that he is far more than just The Boy Who Lived. Guns Akimbo is an ultra-violent movie that is also utterly hilarious. It's definitely not for the kids (and it blows my mind the number of people who seem to think that an actor like Radcliffe is somehow duty-bound to make "family-friendly" movies for the rest of his life). Radcliffe plays something of a sad-sack "ordinary Joe" who struggles through life. In his spare time, he logs into a Dark Web site to troll members of an underground group that provide "entertainment" through real-life games of hunt-based Survivor. When his mockery of them finally catches up with him, he wakes up with guns permanently (and painfully) affixed to his hands, and a team of psychotic killers who are live streaming a hunt with him as a target. That's all you need to know--I don't want to give more away, because it will spoil the fun. The humor is pitch-black, and comes from seeing a regular guy thrust into a ridiculous (and deadly) experience that he has no preparation for. Think The Running Man with a hint of The Hunger Games crossed with any fish-out-of-water story that comes to mind. The script is surprising, and Radcliffe's performance anchors the movie with it's realness and honesty. There is absolutely ZERO reason you should believe any of this is even the slightest bit plausible, but in a society that is increasingly addicted to the internet, reality TV, and true crime shows, this is a glorious send up of everything. You can't help but root for Radcliffe's character, even when he sometimes crosses into being a complete jerk, because he plays him so perfectly that he never seems contrived. This isn't for everyone. It's bloody, violent, and very much in your face about not trying to please anyone, and it's all the more brilliant for all of that. Highly recommend!

Daniel Radcliffe has been doing great things. I went in knowing I was gonna enjoy this movie but I ended up loving it! Start to finish none stop action, the camera works, the music, the comedy, all amazing. Oh and come one you can’t forget Samara Weaving, amazing as always.

This movie was pretty much high octane fun from the start until the end. Think "Crank" meets "Wanted" with a splash of "Surrogates"/"Gamer". The humor is on point, and I completely forgot that the main star was once Harry Potter! Great job Mr. Radcliffe
