Haier - Refurbished 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner - Silver/Black

Bought one of these "refurbished" units for my son's bedroom. Went to pick it up in store. When they brought it out to my car, I should have checked the contents because the box was pretty beat up, but I was in a rush so I put it in the car and headed home. Lugged this thing up three flights of stairs and opened the box. There was ZERO packing material inside. The unit was loose, upside down in a cardboard box. Needless to say, it took a beating in transit and was cracked in several places. Brought it back the next day, and they practically accused me of swapping it out for a broken one. Luckily the serial number was on the box, so I got my money back. Will never buy another "refurbished" anything from Best Buy. Beware!

I have a large attic bedroom that gets very hot during spring and summer months. Don't know why I waited so long to finally make this purchase. The portable unit fit the window just fine with use of some duct tape. The directions that came with it are a bit lacking in detail but I finally got it all setup in about 20-30 minutes. It cools quickly and holds the temp that it's set to. It can get quite cold set at only 73. However, it is a bit loud but once you get used to it you barely notice. I would also like it better if the fan didn't run continuously. I think if the air kicks off the fan should too. Those are minor irritations I overlook in order to be comfortable. I do like the remote so I can control it from my bed if it gets too cool at night. I've had no problems with water accumulation so I assume the self-evaporating mechanism works perfect. I definitely liked this feature compared to others that have to have water dumped routinely or have puddles on the floor. As for it being refurbished: I've had it for about a month and I have no issues with it working properly. However, there were some minor cosmetic issues but not too noticeable. Overall, for getting this at half the price of a new unit I don't mind a small scuff. This unit is definitely worth every penny.
