The misanthropic title character of the Fox hospital series House growls, grunts, glowers, winces and limps his way through a variety of curious and bizarre medical cases during the series' first season on the air. For starters, Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) must determine if a schoolteacher is suffering from a fatal tumor that is somehow causing her to speak fluent gibberish. Other patients suffer from hallucinations, the consequences of rough sex, and a apparent case of stigmata. Through it all, House maintains his nasty, abrasive façade, breaking as many rules as humanly possible to get the right results and save the lives of his charges--even those who flat-out don't want to be saved. Among the season's high points is a wager made by Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital's dean Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) that House can keep away from his precious Vicodin for a week, which results in unexpected side effects that may adversely affect House's patient. Then there's the story arc involving billionaire Edward Vogler (Chi McBride), who wants to purchase Princeton-Plainsboro and fire House as an economy measure--and, failing that, force the reluctant House to dismiss at least one member of his loyal medical team. Finally, House endures a visit from his ex-girlfriend Stacy Warner (Sela Ward), whose husband may be dying and whose lingering presence will vex our "hero" throughout most of the next season. House closed out its successful first season by garnering an Emmy award for series writer-producer David Shore, honoring his teleplay for the episode "Three Stories". ~ Hal Erickson

    House Fan

I started watching House during the second season. So, I was eager to purchase the first season to see what I had missed. It turned out that most of the episodes had been shown at some point as repeats on tv, but they were still enjoyable. It is also nice to be able to watch everything in order, episode after episode. The only thing that I was hoping for that this product didn't give me was the background story. I was hoping for a story lines and explanation as to how House ended up hiring Dr's Cameron, Chase, & Foreman, but the first epidode starts out just like all of the rest - with someone getting sick. So, I guess we'll just have to keep watching to find out more about the characters, but if you are a fan of the show & want to see the past epidodes, I definintely recommend this product!

    Great Content, Bad DVD Quality

If you haven't purchased House: Season One yet, what took you so long? The show is brilliant and season one had some of the best episodes. There's only one thing wrong with it. Universal originally issued S1 on three 2-sided DVDs. If you look at them, they skip. If you *think* of looking at them, they skip. I'm not exaggerating. I have 2 copies of S1 and both skip (and I returned one that skipped even more.) But if you're late to the party, you're in luck. Universal recently re-released S1 on 6 single-sided DVDs. Best Buy has them. Buy that version and you'll have over 20 hours of wonderful viewing.

    Amazing 1st season

Most shows have a pretty good first season, and the writers take until the second to hit their stride. This series kinda follows that trend, but for the most part it does it right from the get go. The first part of the season has a "hazy" look to it, but by the end of it, the look of the show is what you would see on the show now. The way they go through solving the problem is kinda like a murder mystery before the murderer can strike and then there's the comedic time House has to spend in the clinic with "regular" patients which helps to eleviate the drama.

    A totally engrossing show...

If you've heard anything about House, it's likely good. The show blends mystery elements from shows like CSI into a medical setting with a misanthropic lead that's strangely hard to hate. Every main character is given a good amount of development time, so each is almost as engrossing as House himself. The show will have you hooked. If you're buying the box set, be careful as the 3 dual-sided discs make it something that requires you to be extra cautious with them.

Dr. House one of the greatest characters.

This show is terrific. I fell in love with it from day one. The wonderfully sarcastic and funny Dr. House is everyone's worst nightmare but they all can't help but love him. Hugh Laurie does a terrific job of doing his character Dr. Gregory House. You'll fall in love with his wit and smarts. HIs sarcastic comments are the best. The show has great writers and weird diseases that are just about always cured. I highly recommend this tv show and DVD.

    House is Great!

This is an amazing and ingenious show. The content is intriguing and intelligent, and the characters are so contrasting. I think Dr. House’s character is, for some, the stereotypical doctor who may have a bad attitude, be uninterested in his or her patients, and at the same time be brilliant. Some think that House is too crass and sarcastic, but I love his character. This show is much like CSI – in a hospital. This is definitely a must see!

    House 1

The first season of House put the television doctor show in a new perspective. The characters are engaging. The stories are heart pounding. The ideas are always fresh. Will probably end when appropriate but that won't be for many years. An excellent investment.

    This Show Rocks!

this is one of the best doctor shows on tv. if not for the arrogance and inability to follow rules is what saves lives. every patient has a puzzling condition that keeps you guessing till the end with each new symptom that pops up.
