Very Nice Monitor
Posted .I've had a HP 27er monitor for more than two years, it's been awsome I do software development and when I travel by car I take this with as a second monitor. I just added another 27" UHD monitor to my desktop setup, and found that I needed to zoom in 150-175%, so I'm really using it more like a QHD anyhow; so I paid more to get a higher resolution I'm not really using it. That's where the HP 27q comes, it's 2560x1440 (vs 3860x2160 - but you can't use the full resolution un-zoomed as the font is way to small (for me to read comfortable; windows includes zooming to solve this problem, but not all apps support it uniformly). I can use the 27q at full resolution and still read it clearly. So for me a full UHD seems like over kill, especially when compared to the native sharpness of the 27q. It's a bit brighter than my HP 27er, it has more control settings, including blue light reducer (w/4 settings) which is a step up. The screen also offers some tilt control and is more anti-glare. I brought it to get more screen real-estate for a reasonable price. It has 3 inputs (DVI, HDMI & Display port). I tried HDMI and Display port and could not tell them apart (which is good). HP has 2 versions of the 27q; if your an avid gamer you might want to spend 10% more and get the freesync version (AMD grapics card), otherwise the non-freesync version does a very decent job with it's 2ms display timing (that what it said on the box but not in the BB specs [5ms]). The viewing angles are excellent, the back of the monitor does have a VESA mounting adapter, the screen can't weigth more than 6lbs on it's own, it's very narrow monitor make is ideal to pair with a nother monitor to it right or left. All and all I'm very impressed, by the clean output, display speed and overall resolution, I did not know that a non-IPS monitor had this quality of output - I'm happy

Quality4 out of 5Value1 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5PROS: - Gorgeous display, aside from the actual display - Easy Setup - Intuitive on Screen Controls CONS: - Horrible viewing angles (a couple of inches left or right and the colors will shift) - No gamma control - Preset Factory modes are good, but way too bright (if they had the option to start with one of these modes and then tweak the settings, that would be great) - Actual screen reminds you late 90s displays - Washed out colors In my opinion, the 1440p resolution isn't worth the $300 price point. It's a TN panel. You'd be better off going with a IPS 1080p panel for $200 or less. If your eye is good enough to appreciate the improved resolution of 1440p, then it will be good enough to notice the horrible screen quality of this particular TN panel. I bought two of these for my office. I work with AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Word software. I spent several hours tweaking the display with the on screen controls and the NVIDIA Control Panel. I could not find a solution that didn't hurt my eyes, especially with Word and File Explorer. The only caveat I will mention is that, when I told my co-workers I would be returning them, none of them understood why. Long story short, if you have a picky eye, then you probably won't like these monitors. If you don't have a picky eye, then why not just buy a cheaper 1080p IPS display?

High Quality
Posted .Wow, Very Bright Monitor! I found the Cinema screen setting to be the best color scheme and brightness for my taste and for the 6 choices available. The 2ms response is great. I watched a BluRay movie with no lag time and great color imaging. I also use this monitor for music production and mixing arrangements quite comfortably. The matte screen does have some screen fade when viewing at an angle, I still would prefer a glass screen for truer color and clarity. I leave the source to auto for automatic selection of HDMI, DVI or Display Port. Currently using HDMI. It also worked well with source selection when having the 3 connections populated. You can Swivel the screen forward and back with ease, has just the right amount of tension when moving. The five adjustment buttons are clearly identified on the right lower front bottom of the panel. The frame is black with the bottom portion being the Pike Silver color. The near edgeless screen provides for plenty of real estate for the viewing area. I did have to increase the internet screen zoom to 200 to occupy the full screen potential. This screen is connected to an HP Envy Desktop and once set up, the Pc recognized and auto configured the monitor which made it effortless. HP products continue to be my Go To for reliable performance. I would pick this monitor again in a heartbeat.

Looks great

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I was looking for a monitor better than the 1080p I have at home, but don't have a gaming machine powerful enough to justify a 4k monitor, so I went with this as a compromise. The image looks great, video looks great, no real complaints. There's a small like 1/2 inch black border on the left and right side of the screen; it could be intended or i might have a setting off.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Perfect size and resolution for me. I bought 4; 2 for me and 2 for my daughter who is learning to code. Don't go below QHD. FHD's are just to rough for my eyes. UHD's are too expensive.

Good colors with some tweaking. Bad viewing angle
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendPro: Colors VESA compatible Small bezel HDMI and Display Port Con: Bad viewing angles Gamma is high and not adjustable Stand is big and a bit wobbly TN Panel This is a decent monitor. Color accuracy is good after some tweaking but the gamma level is not adjustable through the monitor so colors can look a bit washed out. You can fix this by adjusting it through your GPU settings or color calibration in Windows. Real life performance is good with movies looking sharp, and no noticeable ghosting visible or frame skipping during gaming. The worst thing about this monitor is the viewing angle. Even for a TN panel, it’s really bad. If viewing angle is an important factor to you, then you should look elsewhere. Colors start degrading when viewing at even the slightest angles, even at only a few inches in any directions. The stand is a bit wobbly and extends deeper in the back so space may be an issue, but it is VESA compatible. The buttons on the bottom could be better. They don’t register about half the time and can feel mushy. Build Quality A nice looking monitor. The bezels are small and the bottom edge isn’t as big as some other monitors. There is a bit of a lip on the bottom so when putting side by side for multi screen, there’s a bit of a gap. The buttons are on the bottom which I prefer since it makes it easier to use in the multi screen setup. However, they are mushy and not as responsive. I had to press multiple times for it to register a click. The stand is a little big, or rather deep. The square stand extends about 6 inches to the back. It’s a bit wobbly. The stand is easy to remove, which just one thumb screw, and is VESA ready. It’s much better with a monitor arm. Colors There are five settings for color, Warm, Normal (default), Cool, User, and i-Style Color. The i-Style Color setting, I’m assuming, tries to imitate Apple displays, but for me was way too bright. Out of the box the color is bright and vivid and for some may be perfectly fine. However when put next to a more color accurate display like my Wacom Cintiq, it needed some fine tuning. The contrast and brightness were too high and the RGB values seemed a bit off. After adjusting, the colors looked more accurate but the gamma was still too high and it looked overblown. Unfortunately, this monitor doesn’t have a gamma setting so I had to use Nvidia settings to lower it. After doing so I’m much more happy with the colors. It’s still a little too white, but unless you’re doing color accurate work, it’s fine. Performance Using the UFO testing, there were some ghosting, which is to be expected given the specs, but in a real life situation, I didn’t noticed anything significant. Movies were smooth and crisp, especially if you’re comparing it to a 1080p display. This display will work fine for non twitch paced games. Viewing Angle Quite bad, actually. I have a multiple monitor setup and currently am using this display as the center and for that it’s ok. I wouldn’t use this for any other configuration where you’re looking at it from an angle, no matter how slightly. Moving away from the center, even at about 6 inches, and the color starts to shift. Don’t even bother looking at this thing more than 30 degrees. It’s bad.
Q: QuestionIs it IPS?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer No. This is the TN version. The IPS version is the HP PAVILION 27q ( Needs to have PAVILION in the name ). HP does a crappy job of documenting what type of panel they use.
