A: Yes, this computer does have read/write capabilities. I think this is a new computer. It certainly comes with more memory and hard drive than the "older" HP basic computer, to keep up with the more memory-demanding programs, etc.
Q: Can I lay the computer horizontally or must it be vertical to operate properly.
A: I place mine horizontally for easier access to the DVD drive, and do not notice any difference safety/performance wise.

A: This comes with Windows 10, which I have found similar to Windows 7. I never liked Windows 8, but this newer Windows 10 is easy to navigate...very similar "feel" to Windows 7!
A: As an alternative for a computer from 2009 yes. This would be a great computer for someone who wants to browse the web, watch Netflix/YouTube, check their email, or write a school paper. This is not the type of computer you would want for gaming or photo/video editing though.
