A: Mine was broke as well and started to get extremely hot when I tried to charge wirelessly.
Q: It's it supposed to light up while it's charging?
A: There are 4 blue dots on the case which indicate the amount of charge in the battery. Four lit dots means 100% charge.
Q: Is this compatible with an iPad Air 2?
A: it won't work with the charger that comes in the package. If you have the charger yourself, yes it will connect and charge just like any USB device.
