    Jackie Brown
Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed this adaptation of Elmore Leonard's 1995 Rum Punch, switching the action from Miami to LA, and altering the central character from white to black. Ruthless arms dealer Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson), who lives with perpetually stoned beach-babe Melanie (Bridget Fonda), teams with his old buddy Louis Gara (Robert De Niro), just released from prison after serving four years for armed robbery. ATF agent Ray Nicolette (Michael Keaton) and cop Mark Dargus (Michael Bowen) bust stewardess Jackie Brown (Pam Grier), who was smuggling money into the country for Ordell. Ordell springs Jackie, but when middle-aged bail bondsman Max Cherry (Robert Forster) picks her up at the jail, he's attracted to her, and they choose a romantic route with detours. Mistrust and suspicions surface after Jackie pits Ordell and the cops against each other, convincing Ordell that she's going to double-cross the cops. Tarantino commented on the film's budget: "Jackie Brown only cost $12 million. You can't lose. You absolutely, positively can't lose. And you don't have to compromise." ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

The Best Elmore Leonard adaptation to date

While this film has received a lot of well-deserved praise it does feel like it's overshadowed by it's bigger and crazier predecessor Pulp Fiction and that's a shame because this is the film where Tarantino shows signs of maturing as a director and I would say it's next to Reservoir Dogs as my personal favorite of his. The Blu-ray transfer supervised by Tarantino is leap years above the now aged Special Edition DVD in terms of clarity and color and the audio is no slouch either. Extras are about the same as the previous releases but the DVD release was already loaded and at the Blu-ray's current price the lack of a lot of newer extras can be overlooked.

      One of Tarantino's Best

I know this is not one of the favorites of most Quentin Tarantino fans but if you watch it carefully you will enjoy the subtleties and well developed story. This is one of the best Elmore Leanord adaptions for film ever (even better than the different genre film "Get Shorty"), only television's Justified has done a better job of taking the frame of an Elmore L story and building a well crafted house. Robert DeNiro as you haven't seen him before is worth the price of the blu ray alone but Robert Forster and Pam Grier are great in this and their acting probably beats him out, but only by a hair. A must have for any E.L. or Tarantino fan.

A unique thriller with the Tarantino wit and style

Like all Tarantino movies, this one has sharp, brilliant dialogue, plenty of action and well-cast roles. Pam Grier and Samuel L. Jackson are so good that Robert de Niro is almost an afterthought, which is saying something. Tarantino had several chances to take the easy way out with how the plot unfolds (such as an overt love scene between Jackie and Max instead of just a largely implied attraction) but instead it goes in several interesting directions. This is worth watching again and again, and deserves a place on the movie-lover's shelf, even if unfamiliar with the blaxploitation it references.

In ways, better than Pulp Fiction

I didnt like this film a great deal when it first came out, but upon seeing it again on blu-ray last year, I have since watched it 3 times and love it more and more. Of course getting it from BestBuy 2 Black Friday's ago for 3.99 didnt hurt either. Samuel Jackson is at his best here, (the brief interplay between him and Chris Tucker is hilarious), Pam Grier was excellent, it was good to see her in a lead role again, since last seeing her in a small role in "The Package" (where is that blu-ray??), and Miami Vice in the 80s. Also one of Michael Keaton's last good roles.

This movie is a blast to watch. The characters being played were by very accomplished actors and they understood their rolls. The story Jackie Brown was very well written therefore very entertaining as I viewed with friends. They all had the same reactions that this movie is a must have in one's movie collection. Blu-Ray is the best for viewing.

      An overlooked classic

This is an interesting movie that keeps you entertained while it tells the story of an airline attendant who gets caught in a tough situation. I like that she makes her own (elaborate) plans on how she wants to cope with a bad situation. I don't want to tell too much, so I'll leave it at that, except to say that it is a movie really worth your time.

OK, it's a Tarrantino, so you know what to expect

Bought this to go with my collection of Tarrantino films, and it rates below most, but above "Django Unchained" and "Inglorius B*stards." Not as good as "Pulp Fiction" or anywhere near as good as was "Dusk to Dawn."

An older movie of Quentin Tarantino but as I am a fan this was a big hole in my collection. As he is a movie fan himself he brings back Pam Grier to play the lead role similar to roles she played in her early roles. Good supporting cast. If your a fan of Quentin you should own.
