Q: How do I get more depth of sound (specifically bass) with these headphones?
A: Take them back and for another 20 dollars get the Bose headphones you will see a great difference on sound and when you are on the phone people will hear you, the Jbl sound is muffled cause of the microphone is so far away from your mouth
