Q: What’s the length the tripoid will extend
A: Technically the tripod doesn't raise and lower at all. With its ballhead in the upright position, the tripod is 6.5 inches tall. This tripod is meant to hold the camera steady and cling to a variety of surfaces in order to capture selfies. I use the magnetic tipped legs for all sorts of poles and other tall metal structures in the environment that the legs can't wrap around, but the magnetic feet can hold the position in order to get the height I want for images. Carry this little guy everywhere.
Q: Can it hold phones in the portrait direction as well?
A: The phone grip is not big enough to hold the phone in portrait mode, but the ball head can rotate to portrait mode.
Q: Does this have a cold shoe mount for a microphone
A: No, this does not have that feature.
Q: Can the cell phone mount be removed so a camera can be put on the tripod?
A: Yes, the cellphone mount/holder can be remove by unscrewing it and the screw thread that remains can be used for smaller diigital cameras which use this same connection. I switch between a Sony handheld and my iPhone all the time. I like using the Sony flash to fill in for better image quality, so I seem to go back and forth all the time.

A: Yes, the GorillaPod can screw into the 1/4-20 thread on the bottom of a RX100 camera.
