Synopsis

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls Of Ga'Hoole
Director Zack Snyder teams with screenwriters John Collee and John Orloff to adapt author Kathryn Lasky's popular series of children's books about a group of kidnapped owlets who take flight to save their kingdom from an ancient evil by locating the legendary Guardians of Ga'Hoole. As a young hatchling, Soren would sit transfixed whenever his father would tell the tale of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole and their tireless efforts to defeat the malevolent Pure Ones, whose aim was to exterminate the entire owl population. After hearing the high-flying tales of adventure, Soren would fantasize about gliding through the clouds with the brave owl soldiers while his jealous older brother, Kludd, attempted to gain their father's favor by becoming a skilled hunter. One day, Kludd's anger gets the best of him, and the next thing he knows he's tumbling over the edge of the nest with Soren. But instead of falling to the ground, the siblings are quickly snatched up by the dreaded Pure Ones, and are taken to a place where their parents will never find them. Incredibly, Soren and group of fearless young owls manage to stage a daring escape. With the future of the owl kingdoms hanging in the balance, brave Soren and his newfound friends travel to the ends of the earth in hopes of finding the mythical Great Tree and convincing the Guardians of Ga'Hoole to help defeat the Pure Ones once and for all. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Pretty amazing stuff...

I really rolled the dice on this one, and I'm glad I did. There are few movies like this that display such a loving execution of technical production. Visually, it's astonishing. The 3D rendering on blu-ray is second to none, and is so crisp that there is now a dent in the floor in front of my TV where my jaw kept hitting it. The story will not surprise seasoned moviegoers, and the arc is a bit predictable, but this does little to detract from the experience overall. Younger viewers (preteen and younger) needn't worry about that so much, but may be a bit put off by the intensity of some of the scenes ( you won't see blood or gore, but there is no shortage of theatrical implications of violence). This film also addresses some fairly heavy social issues, so some parental guidance for the aforementioned kiddos would probably not be a bad idea. Also, this movie is FULL of fowl language. Get it? Fowl ? Man, I'm funny. And no, I don't recall hearing ANY profanity.

    Great Movie for Everyone

This movie is very fun and much better than I expected. I didn't know what to expect from an animation all about owls, but I thoroughly enjoyed this flick. The plot is simple and perhaps a bit unoriginal, but that makes the movie easy to watch. The animation is cute and the characters have a fun array of personalities. There are emotional and thrilling moments in the story as well as a lot of beautiful aerial action. I feel a bit sorry that I didn't go watch it in 3D in IMAX. But that's ok maybe one day I'll get a 3D tv and buy the bluray 3d version. I recommend buying a bluray of this if you have an HD TV.

Like another review said this SKU number is supposed to have 3D, Bluray, DVD, and Code. It only has the 3D Bluray and regular Bluray. There was no DVD or online code to redeem. Luckily it at least had a 3D Bluray, but still annoying. How have they not fixed this? Clearly says in the title and on the picture what it is. As to the movie? It's was great in 2D I bet it is great in 3D too! So I'll give the movie itself 5 stars. I give 1 star to Bestbuy for messing up their listing on their website.

    Great Movie in 3d

I took a chance on this title based on the reviews I read as usually. I knew nothing of it and I was skeptical about it in fact. This was a great movie to invest in. This was one of my first 3d movies purchased. This was a completely different plotted movie considering its characters. The models were great along with the 3d, the environments and the plot itself. Money well spent. It even has a bit of moral value to it. It has 4 viewing formats so it definitely makes the price worth it. I am convinced that if you purchase these 3d movies during its release week, it will save you at least 10 bucks and makes these 3d movies a bargain considering they have multiple formats.

Ok, I don't normally write reviews but so far I own pretty much every 3D movie that's come out. Simply put, this movie has about the prettiest 3D you'll find in any movie. One person commented on ghosting, but he's also watching on an LCD 3D TV, and I'm using a Viera VT-25 Plasma (Note to people interested in getting a 3D TV, Viera's the way to go for the way Plasma works vs LCD. Without getting too technical with LCD you can only get 30hz per eye and Plasma you get the full 60hz the movie is running at per eye)... Anyway on my TV this movie is simply stunning. Crystal clear 3D with excellent depth. It's a great story and even I find myself watching it over and over... If you own a 3D TV this movie is a MUST!!

I ordered this online because it showed that it was the 3D, blue ray, DVD and digital copy on the cover and it was on sale. When I picked it up at the store, the package was just 3D and blue ray (no dvd and no digital copy - however the staff argued with me and told me I was wrong and that the digital code was inside). I paid for the product, opened it in front of them and then promptly returned the product as it was what the package stated (just blue ray and 3D). The staff at my store said the sku number listed is not what is pictured.

I have been buying some 3D movies since I now have a 3D HDTV. This is by far in my top 3. If you decide to get this movie you will not be sorry. The depth is amazing and has some great pop out scenes. I especially like the scene of flying the owls flying through the rain. Never have I seen 3D like this-the rain was going in and then splashing back out of the screen. The CGI Effects and detail are amazing-these owls look like the real thing. Get this movie!!!!!!

I won't review the movie except to say that this movie is beatifully rendered, particularly in 3D. We've watched several movies on our 3 month old 3D set up. This is one of the best 3D films in terms of visual beauty. The 3D effects add to the excitement and beauty. I'm not a videophile or claim any particular movie critic expertise. Simply, my wife, 12 year old daughter and 8 year old son love the movie.
