I am a photographer. So I need my computer to be reasonably fast and be able to handle running software like Photoshop. I often have to multitask, so I needed it to be able to run Google Chrome and Photoshop at the same time. I was assured when I bought this computer that it would have no problem doing what I needed it to. Straight out of the box it took it about 5 minutes to turn on and get me to the home screen. I hoped that it was just startup that was slow, but it isn't. This computer has to "think" way too hard with only one program running. You can hear it and then it starts to get slower and then sometimes it will freeze. Occasionally if I wait long enough, 5-10 minutes, it will eventually process everything and start working again. Sometimes I have to restart it because it just freezes up. It seems to get slower the longer I use it and seeing as time is money in my profession, it is extremely frustrating. Everything is up to date, all scans have been run and everything checks out. Like I said, it had these issues right out if the box. The screen color is pretty off and had to be calibrated, but this is expected with most laptops. Overall, I would not buy this computer again, especially for what I paid for it. I would recommend it only to someone that wants if for browsing the internet or using Word. The charging cord is way too short and I don't like that it's not your typical charging port. Instead of being able to interchange cords, since I have several from other laptops, it has to have a specific one. This makes things difficult since my plugins aren't placed very close to my table. As a last note, I thought I could live with the touchpad not having actual separate buttons, but I hate it and use a wireless mouse.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your IdeaPad 330-17 laptop. Windows 10 has issues with the Chrome Browser. Here is a link to an article with tips for fixing this issue:  https://newsstand.google.com/articles/CAIiEBv-zpF8O1RJ3WeypJKu1fsqFwgEKg4IACoGCAow3O8nMMqOBjCP1egF. Check with any other software publishers you are using to be sure this system meets the requirements of that software. We recommend you check with the specific software publisher's web sites for their compatibility with Windows 10 Home 64-bit operating system and the minimum/recommended hardware requirements (Is a Graphics card required, the processor speed and the minimum required system RAM and the minimum available hard drive space) to run their program, then compare those requirements to this system's configuration. With regard to the touchpad, you can make adjustments to the touchpad in your system settings. You can get there by clicking on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your Windows 10 screen. Type "touchpad" in the search window. Select "Mouse & touchpad settings" from the list of choices. You can make general adjustments to the touchpad there. You can also select "Additional mouse options" for more detailed adjustments to the touchpad sensitivity by increasing the delay of the touchpad. lenovo

I needed a 17' laptop and there were several options ranging from 500 to 1k, after 3 weeks of having this computer I can say that it worth the value, I paid 430, the lowest price for I5 8th generation 4 cores. Pros: it is fast, reliable, light and cheap. Cons: First, windows up dates are going to be around for a week or so, so be patient, once all updates are done you will be able to see the value. Yes it can lags during this period, but is not the laptop fault it is microsoft. Yes it can be faster and better with SSD and more RAM, but I will wait until the warranty expire to do so, I can live for now with the mechanical HD. The cost for 240GB SSD and additional 8GB RAM can be less than $120. But the performance adding these two items will be for a laptop that worth at least 800 dlls. Yes it seems that it is going to last several years. Charger looks cheap and fragile but mostly of the time I use the laptop with my TV. So I can live also with that, also the cost to replace the charger is less than 40 dlls. There are comments that the computer can not handle 1080p resolution tv, that is not true, I have the laptop connected with my 65 Vizio TV and the resolution is FHD or 1080p. Can be used as TV or simple browsing and office work without a problem. I have the opportunity to return the product, but it worth the value and it is reliable. My best advice, yes buy the product and be patient the first 2 weeks to let the windows do the full upgrade. Battery can last 3 hours full brightness. I dont use the computer for gaming, so I can not comment about it.

I purchased this computer for my 16 year old son for school. He was the one to actually pay for it and he wanted to spend less than $600. He's NOT a gamer so I didn't have to be concerned with premium graphics, etc. That said, after my son set up his computer he said that it blew him away with it's performance. I walked into his room and asked him what speaker he was using to listen to music because the sound quality was impressive - and he was using his computer. I have a Lenova laptop from the dark ages that still performs well and does what I need it to do but, to see how much faster his computer was, ease of use and how much better the screen quality was blew me away. The laptop itself is rather big but, he wanted a larger screen. So when other reviewers are complaining of how bulky it is - I'm not sure how to make a 17.3" screen "compact". It's super light weight as well. This is an excellent computer for anyone that needs a laptop for everyday use. I am super happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to a friend. And in regards to price - we bought this laptop, a printer and a mouse ALL for under $600! Worth every penny!!

      Great School/Work Computer

First experience with a Lenovo computer. I have always used HP laptops and found myself looking for a change. Upgraded from an HP Pavilion 360 looking a bigger and comfortable device. This laptop works great for my online schooling and occasional work emails. It handles different tasks at once like Word, Excel, and online browsing with multiple taps. Mate screen but extremely satisfied with the screen quality. Battery is "ok" nothing major to complain about, last long enough and that's find with me. I LOVE the keyboard, soft to touch, crispy, and spacious. Windows 10 works fine on the computer the only negative side is booting is a bit slow but I have notice this on every Windows 10 computer. The only negatives things I have to say about this computer is the short charging cable and that the speakers are not as loud as I would like, other than that if you're a college student and you're looking for a new laptop on the budget, that's big, and not bulky, and light weight. Then this is what you're looking for.

      Near Perfect

This laptop is near perfect. It's super fast. It handles online browsing like Youtube videos just fine, Multiple tabs open is no problem. The laptop could run for like 12 hours straight and the temperature stays between 39-41 C. My only issue is the gaming aspect. You can't play games period. The laptop is not built for gaming. I knew that before making the purchase. Kinda makes me wonder if this laptop is an overkill for basic stuff like online surfing and I'm better off with a $200 laptop instead of spending $500. Once again, this laptop is as fast as any when it comes to online surfing. Forget about playing games on low settings. I ran Gimp with no issues, but it wasn't much faster than with my older laptops. It should handle photo editing well, but I could see this being an issue with stuff like Photoshop which require much more juice.

      Horrible Mistake

      Mreview

What a horrible mistake I made with this purchase. It's so bad in fact that tomorrow I plan on returning it. It has with all the ram and decent processor, it can barely handle the most simple of tasks. My wireless mouse takes a good 10 minutes before it decides it want to work and even after it does, it will decide to take a break and again I have to wait another 10 minutes. Firefox, one of the most common browsers also has to think before it works and at times takes breaks. The touch pad, maybe you have to hold the left button to scroll, maybe not. Depends on the mood of the PC. And, even at medium sensativity if you breath on the thing too hard you're likely to delete, or as has happened to me on more than one occasion, copied files to ... I don't know. I have to search to see where they went. The list is endless. HUGE mistake, and I had such high hopes based on previous reviews.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Lenovo IdeaPad 330-17 laptop. This is a fast system with its Core I-5 processor and 8GB of RAM. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. lenovo

Not worth the time or effort, no help from Lenovo

      Garbage

I purchased this laptop, and everything was great during the setup. But once I was logged in, pinch to zoom was a nightmare. The web pages just keep getting big and small, over and over, due to the way the touchpad was working. There was no settings in the mouse to disable, and make the mouse pad to my liking, but the one in the store had them settings, I went and checked. So I tried to work with Lenovo, who was no help at all, even thoe the laptop was 2 hours new. Keep trying to charge me 99.99 and more interested in selling me other programs. Decided to return. Exchanged for same laptop, and guess what, the setting were there. I could make the mouse pad to my liking. But the keypad wouldn't work. Exchanged for a third laptop, and now the keypad worked, but the mouse setting was missing again. Returned for full refund, went with a HP. Lenovo has lost thier way. No support anymore. Used to be my favorate brand. Until this week.

You're not going to get much better for the price. Having a 17" screen was important to me since I'm always running multiple programs and writing code. I would say the speed is very good, but if you want it to be fantastic I'd recommend tossing in an SSD. I bought a Samsung SSD and cloned the HDD with the Samsung Data Migration tool. Unscrewed the bottom and swapped them out. Now this thing is an absolute beast. I gave it 4 stars because I'm reviewing the stock model. After installing the SSD it's a definite 5 star laptop. It's not 1080p but the colors are solid. Probably wouldn't recommend if you're going to be working on high-end photo or video projects.
