I'm fully not satisfied with this laptop. For one thing, the battery life is very short, 2 hours max!. But most irritating for me this the position of the mouse pad. It is not centered like every other mouse pad on my previous laptops - but is more to the left of the keyboard. Because of this position, the bottom portion of my hand can and does easily move the pointer to different positions on my document - which I dont notice immediately because I am reading and typing from my notes. Annoying and frustrating!. Typing this review, I've had to rearrange the pointer five times. Enough already!!! This slows me down considerable - especially when on a deadline. The microphone and speaker quality are also lacking. You will definitely have to add external speakers, with volume at 100%, it is still low. I've had this laptop for months and I still can't get use to it. The keyboard is the best of the laptop, especially if you have big hands as I do, the position of the mouse pad the worst part!! Overalll, I would not buy this particular unit again.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 330-17 ships with a 2CELL 30WH, Lithium Polymer battery, with a battery life of up to 5 hours depending on the work that the device is performing. Be sure there are no unwanted programs running in the background, draining the battery. Here is a link to some tips for finding out what is draining your battery:
https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/battery-saver-windows-10. Additionally, to maximize battery life, try changing your power management setting to a more conservative one. You can do this in the control panel, in the power management category on your system. Select a more conservative power management setting to extend battery life. Concerning the position of the touchpad, this model has a 10-kry numeric pad. The touchpad is centered under the QWERTY keyboard. The 10-key numeric pad shifts the touchpad to the left, under the typing keys. You can make adjustments to the touchpad in your system settings. You can get there by clicking on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your Windows 10 screen. Type "touchpad" in the search window. Select "Mouse & touchpad settings" from the list of choices. You can make general adjustments to the touchpad there. You can also select "Additional mouse options" for more detailed adjustments to the touchpad sensitivity by increasing the delay of the touchpad. Concerning the audio system on this computer. There are stereo 1.5W speakers on this device. Additionally, there is Dolby Audio sound enhancement software. Be sure Dolby Audio is turned on and adjusted to your preferences for the best audio experience. Lenovo

I have owned two other Lenovo computers and I wouldn't use any other brand. This model has great screen clarity, lots of storage and memory and best of all it is fast. I haven't found anything I cannot do on with this computer. The sales guy didn't feel like it would be a good fit for graphic programs but I run all of mine just fine.

The screen is bigger than other laptops. The setup process leads you well and give choices. Very comfortable to use the keyboard mostly for my right hand, additional space to set my hand when typing.

    Poorly made, 2-year old laptop

I picked this up yesterday and I am returning it today. The bezel around the screen appears to be uneven (indicating very poor quality control by Lenovo) and coming off at some places - please see picture. Also, the manufacturing date for this is August 2016, which is more than 2 years ago - please see picture. This is my first review of a purchase I made at BestBuy even though I have bought a lot of stuff from BestBuy over the years.

    Best Price Value

I needed a 17' laptop and there were several options ranging from 500 to 1k, after 3 weeks of having this computer I can say that it worth the value, I paid 430, the lowest price for I5 8th generation 4 cores. Pros: it is fast, reliable, light and cheap. Cons: First, windows up dates are going to be around for a week or so, so be patient, once all updates are done you will be able to see the value. Yes it can lags during this period, but is not the laptop fault it is microsoft. Yes it can be faster and better with SSD and more RAM, but I will wait until the warranty expire to do so, I can live for now with the mechanical HD. The cost for 240GB SSD and additional 8GB RAM can be less than $120. But the performance adding these two items will be for a laptop that worth at least 800 dlls. Yes it seems that it is going to last several years. Charger looks cheap and fragile but mostly of the time I use the laptop with my TV. So I can live also with that, also the cost to replace the charger is less than 40 dlls. There are comments that the computer can not handle 1080p resolution tv, that is not true, I have the laptop connected with my 65 Vizio TV and the resolution is FHD or 1080p. Can be used as TV or simple browsing and office work without a problem. I have the opportunity to return the product, but it worth the value and it is reliable. My best advice, yes buy the product and be patient the first 2 weeks to let the windows do the full upgrade. Battery can last 3 hours full brightness. I dont use the computer for gaming, so I can not comment about it.

I am a photographer. So I need my computer to be reasonably fast and be able to handle running software like Photoshop. I often have to multitask, so I needed it to be able to run Google Chrome and Photoshop at the same time. I was assured when I bought this computer that it would have no problem doing what I needed it to. Straight out of the box it took it about 5 minutes to turn on and get me to the home screen. I hoped that it was just startup that was slow, but it isn't. This computer has to "think" way too hard with only one program running. You can hear it and then it starts to get slower and then sometimes it will freeze. Occasionally if I wait long enough, 5-10 minutes, it will eventually process everything and start working again. Sometimes I have to restart it because it just freezes up. It seems to get slower the longer I use it and seeing as time is money in my profession, it is extremely frustrating. Everything is up to date, all scans have been run and everything checks out. Like I said, it had these issues right out if the box. The screen color is pretty off and had to be calibrated, but this is expected with most laptops. Overall, I would not buy this computer again, especially for what I paid for it. I would recommend it only to someone that wants if for browsing the internet or using Word. The charging cord is way too short and I don't like that it's not your typical charging port. Instead of being able to interchange cords, since I have several from other laptops, it has to have a specific one. This makes things difficult since my plugins aren't placed very close to my table. As a last note, I thought I could live with the touchpad not having actual separate buttons, but I hate it and use a wireless mouse.

This is a smart buy if you are looking for a mid-range, large screen laptop. Plus, it's a Lenovo. They are well-built and trustworthy. I wouldn't describe this as a "cute/trendy" laptop. The build is solid and smooth. I am satisfied with the speed that supports multiple applications, browsers, and streaming media simultaneously. The screen is big enough to snap 2 windows and still work comfortably. The sound is loud enough but is not rich, like most laptops. I like the 9-digit keypad for working in Excel and Freshbooks. It's main keyboard was intuitive, but the 'home' and 'end' keys are located as a function of the keypad. I want sure if I would like the touchpad so far to the left. Fortunately, it's centered under the keyboard so it's not awkward. I am happy with this laptop. It was a great price.

    Excellent choice and performance

    Posted .

I purchased this computer for my 16 year old son for school. He was the one to actually pay for it and he wanted to spend less than $600. He's NOT a gamer so I didn't have to be concerned with premium graphics, etc. That said, after my son set up his computer he said that it blew him away with it's performance. I walked into his room and asked him what speaker he was using to listen to music because the sound quality was impressive - and he was using his computer. I have a Lenova laptop from the dark ages that still performs well and does what I need it to do but, to see how much faster his computer was, ease of use and how much better the screen quality was blew me away. The laptop itself is rather big but, he wanted a larger screen. So when other reviewers are complaining of how bulky it is - I'm not sure how to make a 17.3" screen "compact". It's super light weight as well. This is an excellent computer for anyone that needs a laptop for everyday use. I am super happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to a friend. And in regards to price - we bought this laptop, a printer and a mouse ALL for under $600! Worth every penny!!

    Great School/Work Computer

    Posted .

First experience with a Lenovo computer. I have always used HP laptops and found myself looking for a change. Upgraded from an HP Pavilion 360 looking a bigger and comfortable device. This laptop works great for my online schooling and occasional work emails. It handles different tasks at once like Word, Excel, and online browsing with multiple taps. Mate screen but extremely satisfied with the screen quality. Battery is "ok" nothing major to complain about, last long enough and that's find with me. I LOVE the keyboard, soft to touch, crispy, and spacious. Windows 10 works fine on the computer the only negative side is booting is a bit slow but I have notice this on every Windows 10 computer. The only negatives things I have to say about this computer is the short charging cable and that the speakers are not as loud as I would like, other than that if you're a college student and you're looking for a new laptop on the budget, that's big, and not bulky, and light weight. Then this is what you're looking for.

Bought this to replace a 10 year old Toshiba. Wanted something simple and not too expensive but would work for home use and internet surfing, paying bills, Facebook, and just general every day use. Battery lasts a while, and the computer is not super heavy so bring it from room to room whenever I want. Recommended if you are looking for a nice home computer that you aren't trying to do massive gaming on or fancy tech stuff. Would buy Lenovo again. No complaints.

This laptop is not too bad. It’s reliable, especially for the affordable price. The main gripe that my wife and I have with it is there is no noticeable way to turn off the trackpad. We use a wireless mouse and end up running into competing issues when the trackpad accidentally comes into play. Other than that, it runs great and the large screen size makes up for the small issues we run into.

Laptop operates very well for the 3 weeks I've had it. Must let it update windows 10 completely though. I almost thought I was going to have to return it. Con - the only thing I have an issue with on this particular laptop is that the HOME, END, PGUP, PGDN keys are now associated with the function key and are located on the arrow keys instead. I would have preferred the Fn key between the rt Ctrl key and the arrow keys. neutral - The charging light doesn't not show when there is a full charge, only that the laptop is being charged (single white light, no other color indication)

It works and it plays well. The processor doesn't lag and the lower power hard drive is the only thing slowing this laptop down. The hard drive isn't super slow with this processor, but I'm used to much quicker solid state drives. The screen isn't blurring anything, and the games we play on it (POGO,Facebook) work and load quite nicely, great colors. Battery will last us about 2-3 hours, but I don't have any settings scaled back to make it last longer. I like to keep it plugged in when possible. The wife and I really like this laptop. The larger screen makes it easier on our eyes.

This laptop is near perfect. It's super fast. It handles online browsing like Youtube videos just fine, Multiple tabs open is no problem. The laptop could run for like 12 hours straight and the temperature stays between 39-41 C. My only issue is the gaming aspect. You can't play games period. The laptop is not built for gaming. I knew that before making the purchase. Kinda makes me wonder if this laptop is an overkill for basic stuff like online surfing and I'm better off with a $200 laptop instead of spending $500. Once again, this laptop is as fast as any when it comes to online surfing. Forget about playing games on low settings. I ran Gimp with no issues, but it wasn't much faster than with my older laptops. It should handle photo editing well, but I could see this being an issue with stuff like Photoshop which require much more juice.

Im a tech guy and used to repair computers for a living size I'm pretty knowledgeable. I bought this laptop brand new, and I cant see why it has any negative reviews. It has good weight, NO problems with google chrome or any of the stock programs or programs I've installed. I've used about 35% of storage and experience no noticable slowdown. The only time I've noticed a slowdown are 2 instances. You have 1 or more startup programs loading when window starts. And noticable slowness during a windows update which is expected until it completes and your laptop restarts. This laptop still takes 6-7 seconds to start and exactly 3 to shut off. I use this for work and play. Great for price, would buy again if I had to.

I purchased this to replace a 10 year old 15" HP, for the purpose of general emails and web browsing. I travel sometime as well, plus I wanted the larger screen size as getting older robs you of some vision. First, it DOES have a webcam built in. Second, after a few weeks of burn in and testing I replaced the drive with a Samsung Model 860 500GB SSD I also bought at Best Buy on sale. The laptop comes with a WD 1TB 5400 RPM drive and it's a far nicer user experience with an SSD. Overall a good buy, especially on sale, and I think Lenovo is a trusted and reliable brand. Let's see if it lasts another 10 years!
