Another great HD nature documentary series
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the tradition of great HD nature documentary series like "Planet Earth" and "Blue Planet" is "Life." Until a 4K UHD version is possibly released, this remains the best way to view the wonderful series in all its glory. Enjoy!

Wonderful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.'Life' kept me and the rest of the family captivated often in awe for the four days we spent watching the series, limiting ourselves to one disc per evening to allow ourselves sufficient time to talk about what we were watching and to go back from time to time and replay some of the more stunning takes. I'm not going to say what 'Life' is about because it's not a story. The series was produced by a number of BBC crews who went all over the world to capture so that they could show the rest of us some of the more extreme, more beautiful, more striking and lesser known ways life forms on our Earth act in order to survive as individuals or as species, raise and take care of their offspring, hunt for prey, hide from predators, fight and sometimes cooperate in order to stay alive.

The ultimate reference for hifi biology/evolution
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This IS my reference documentary for all biology and evolution. Couple this with the Blue Planet and Planet Earth documentaries, and you are COVERED with everything except outter space (astronomy documentaries elsewhere). It presents some of the coolest, most dangerous to capture ever camera shots in amazing 1080p. If you have a regular small TV or a giant setup like me with Marantz receivers and 7.1 Axiom speakers you won't be let down. The DTS Hi Res track is to my audiophile ears, indistinguishable from the lossless DTS HD MA. The entire gamut of animals is covered too, with none of the boring African Safari ONLY animals countless of other documentaries covered. Whether you're a Biology major like me or just a neophyte and curious about animals, this IS the piece for you. Oh, and David Attenborough''s narration is dead on, his voice is calming and clear like a Morgan Freeman...the perfect British compliment for this educational video. All in all 5/5 presentation, and I am picky when it comes to my blu ray reviews. Best purchase of the year from BestBuy for this price!

A visually stunning nature series on blu-ray.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A visually stunning nature series by the BBC focusing on all the different lifeforms that survive on the planet Earth. An amazing set to own on blu-ray. Each episode focuses on different forms of life. Plants, Deep Sea life, Insects, Reptiles, Amphibians, Mammals, etc. The whole set is worth it for the Plants episode alone. After the ending of each episode is a segment on how the episode was created and how the lifeforms were filmed. Amazing and beautiful. Perfect narration by David Attenborough. Illuminates many organisms you may have never even seen in any other nature documentary. The variety of life that lives on Earth right now at this moment will astound.

Excellent Programming, Great Clarity; one caveat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1st, the positives: • This set of BluRays have stunning visuals, from the first disc to the last. • The amount of information does not overwhelm, but does constantly flow, makes the learning enjoyable, without boredom. • Its a set of discs that we'll watch over and over again. • Each episode has a sub-episode that explains HOW THEY SHOT IT. It is as fascinating and educational as the main episodes Now, for my one caveat: • This has nothing to do with the quality of the programming or the discs themselves, but with the spoken narration. When I see David Attenborough's name, I know what he is going to say, and I'm ALWAYS disappointed to hear him say it. Phrases like, "approximately 65 million years ago..." or such and such beast, "has evolved the ability to..." do this or that. Nonsense. Everything is going along fine: great instruction, camera work, the science of what is occurring, and then blips like that foolishness are irritating. Nevertheless, based on all the positive points, I really like the series, and would recommend watching.
