Synopsis

Lifeforce
Director Tobe Hooper adapts Colin Wilson's edgy novel The Space Vampires in this in this horror/sci-fi epic with a cult following. The story concerns a joint British-American space probe of Hailey's Comet. Inside the comet, the astronauts, headed by Carlsen (Steve Railsback), find a spaceship that contains the dead bodies of several aliens, along with the naked bodies of three human-like creatures in suspended animation. They bring the aliens aboard the ship for examination, but the specimens are sloppily guarded and soon the trio spread contagion among the population of the ship. Returning to earth, the beautiful space vampire (Mathilda May) escapes into London and begins to feed of the bodies of the unwary Britons, turning the city into a zombie-populated wasteland. It is now left for Carlsen to stop the vampire invaders. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Lifeforce is one of the true underrated masterpieces not just of horror/sci-fi, but of the recently passed Tobe Hooper's catalog. (In fact, it happens to be my favorite of his, edging out even Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Once again, I find myself double-dipping in order to get my hands on a Scream Factory release, and as is usual, they impress, especially in the remaster. While not chock-full of new extras, it's a great visual quality here, along with both versions of the film: theatrical and the Director's Cut and a combination of several new extras and those ported from MGMs DVD version. The film marks one of the earliest appearances of Patrick Stewart, although his role is somewhat limited, as well as the stunning Mathilda May, as the lead space vampire (space vampire is accurate, although it sounds hokier than it is,) walking around largely in the buff for the better part of the movie. Watching London become overrun by a space vampire plague is one of the early "large scale" battles I can recall; and with the infected regaining their vitality with each kill, leading to distrust and the unknown of who can be trusted, Lifeforce feels like a (wonderful,) cross between The Thing and a large scale zombie film. One of the many great original 80s horror films that still seems fresh 35 years later, if not better than much of the PG13 drek that passes as horror nowadays.

I first saw this movie with my dad when I was about 13 and remember thinking I can't believe he's letting me watch a naked girl's breasts?! Then she sucked the "Lifeforce" out of him and it quickly became one of my favorite movies. Funny how the extra features show that she didn't even speak English at the time of filming and was previously a ballerina with no goals to ever get in the acting business. Overall it's a great movie with a basic story line involving a extraterrestrial type of space vapires that suck the life out of you. It also comes with a rotating DVD case paper giving you the option to have the original or animated cover. I added a pic if your curious.

    Not Oscar-worthy, but FUN!!!

I saw this movie for the first time when I was a kid, and absolutely loved it. It's still one of my "guilty pleasure" movies today. This movie is in no way an Oscar-worthy movie, but it's a great popcorn movie. With such actors as Steve Railsback, who is known for great camp, this movie cannot miss. Another honorable mention goes to Mathilda May, who never says a word in this movie, but is without a doubt the most memorable character in the film. Although I wouldn't recommend this one for the kiddies (under the age of 16), l wouldn't have a problem letting someone in their late teens watch this one. While not received very well at the box office when it opened, this one has gained the cult status it so very much deserved. Definitely a "guy movie". A little aside...this one was directed by Tobe Hooper, of the ORIGINAL "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" fame. Enjoy....

Great plot - sexy space vampires taking over humanity as a feeding ground— but in particular one gorgeous naked female- desperate to feed, yet leaves our protagonist alive. Did I mention that she is naked for virtually the entire movie? Yet somehow that is fitting, given the incredible atmosphere of foreboding this movie creates in the viewer. A stellar cast that defies logic- what were they thinking you might wonder? These actors were and are not B-Movie by any stretch. The psychology that is explored behind the alien plot is also rather intriguing. Couldn’t make this movie now and get it funded but the eighties ahhh- what a wonderful decade.

The film starts off with a comic book style sounding narration. From there, we take a trip to space, earth and eventually through various disasters. It's a wild ride that definitely isn't for everyone. Space vampires are brought to Earth where they wake up and get loose, leaving a trail of zombie vampires in their wake. This contains not only the theatrical version but an extended one as well. You get a DVD and Blu-Ray copies of the films. The artwork is reversible, so you can switch it around to get the original cover. While I like it, it's really not a good blind buy unless you're into oddball horror from the 80s. If you enjoyed something like Terrorvision, you'll probably like this too.

Now tell me...who doesn't like Space Vampires???? Modern twist on the classic vampire mythology with great practical effects and fun storyline from one of my favorite horror directors, Tone Hooper. Scream Factory does a great job with this blu Ray and glad to finally have for my collection.

Tongue in cheek British Sci-fi at its best. X-rated so not for kids. Seriously space vampires and well the hottest female space vampire. Yes it’s a movie for guys but the storyline is ingenious with exceptional special effects. Great cast.

This movie really was more of a sci-fi horror film. Mixing vampires and aliens together were rarely done back then and surprising. Patrick Stewart is in the movie for a quick second. Very enjoyable.
