First off, I must say wow. With "Remember that Night" being such an incredible release in 2007, I thought we had seen all that the "On an Island tour" had to offer--and I'm pleased to say I was dead wrong. Most importantly, how is the music? Well if you even remotely enjoyed the "On an Island" album or you simply love the guitar sound of David Gilmour, you will be ecstatic. I thought his album was great, but it lacked a little edge. This release proves that edge is greatly fulfilled within a live setting. Gilmour's guitar playing sounds INSPIRED here and the magnitude of the Solidarity anniversary event that prompted this concert really give weight to this. Rick Wright's performance here is phenomenal, really a career highlight. "Wearing the Inside Out" and "Echoes" really showcase his excellent musicianship. He truly will be missed. Another interesting point to note is with "Live in Gdansk" Gilmour isn't afraid of mistakes--like with a surprise take of "On the Turning Away" in Venice where the band was surprised at the inclusion of the song, he laughs at a minor flub in the lyrics and this is all documented here. This is a GREAT improvement over PULSE where songs like Sorrow and most tragically--Comfortably Numb on the final solo-- were cut either for length or perceived inadequacy. At any rate, this allowance for minor errors that most listeners won't notice allow for an ACTUAL live setting rather than "studio enhanced". Sound quality is superb and on par with any other live releases from Gilmour in the last 15 or so years, particularly the clever use of the soundstage for important moments (Echoes comes to mind). The DVD is wonderful and is shot in a different style to that of the "Remember that Night" DVD and I actually prefer it. It doesn't have every song, but it certainly includes the highlights. The documentary included is also a nice little addition. Each little extra shows the level of detail put into this production. The outer packaging is beautiful and solid. Inside is a booklet that describes Solidarity and the contents of the product, as well as some photos from the event. A poster is included as well. A little envelope also holds several glossy photos, a mock backstage pass, a concert ticket, and a guitar plectrum. Now the only minor problem. In the successful effort to make this release carbon neutral, there is no plastic in the packaging. This leads to the storage of the discs--small cardboard slipcases, one for each disc. They get the job done, but do have a tendency to scratch the discs. This is very minor though and with a little care, this risk can be reduced. Overall, this is an amazing release at any price and a must have for anyone with an appreciation of great performances or David Gilmour.

Got this baby for cheap when I preordered it. Free shipping, nice exclusive Best Buy bonus disc, nice packaging... what more could you ask for? The only bummer is the extra goodies for this set came in a sealed envelope which means I have to break the envelope's seal to enjoy them which is torture for a collector! If you're like me and you missed Gilmour live on his last tour with the late, great Richard Wright, this is the next best thing to being there.
