A: yes to both
A: Plug and play with windows 10. If you want to then later download software to edit the buttons and etc but nothing's required at first.
Q: Does the mx518 use the HERO sensor?
A: Yes, 16k DPI Hero Sensor
Q: Does it have side-scrolling?
A: Yes. There are two buttons on the left side with up/down arrow keys. On the browser they are used to go to previous/next page you visited. You could bind these to do other things - in my FPS game I use them for quick commands.
