Great picture but had video loss issues
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had repeated video loss and What honestly really killed me keeping this item was the 15 day return policy. If it was 30 day I would of kept trying to figure out the issue and would of kept if I could resolve it. The good: 4K picture was sharp, great detail in images. Lots of clarity. Multiple motion sensitivity zones per camera. You can have 24 / hr recording and motion detect notifications so you can review anything any time but only get notified. (Incase maybe you think something happened between notifications.) The bad: Mainly I kept losing video feed. This may of been an issue with me some how it’s not widely reported. But what good is a camera that doesn’t work. Poor instructions come in the box. The manual online is very detailed and expansive but hard to navigate. There is a learning curve with setting it up beyond the basic Out of the box settings. I didn’t find the system to be really intuitive. Built in light : I’m not sure it’s rating in Lumens but I’d have to guess it’s like 10. It’s not very bright at all. If you use it might as well set it to flash as it’s only purpose is to make someone look at the camera. It doesn’t light up anything. Definitely not enough to see any better at night if you’re hoping to use it as a motion activated spot light. Color Night Vision : I have flood lights over my garage and the camera was adjacent. They’re pretty bright but unless I really tweaked the color settings on the camera it stayed in black and white. Clearly it needs not just a little ambient lighting. It needs a fair amount. It seemed that a partially cloud day would trigger the motion sensor as clouds went over. Might be needing sensitivity adjustment. Did the same when I had inside and room would get lighter and darker. The other notes from my experience : I did as the instructions suggested. I hooked everything up in my dining room and actually let it run for a day and a half made sure all camera and cables worked. It was good. I set up the first camera. Set it for 24/7 recording with motion notifications. Crawled thru my attic etc. ran the cable seemed ok, walked around got notifications and seemed fine. Then I noticed the next day I didn’t have a notification when i pulled the car out of the driveway. I looked further into it and there was a video loss for a period of time. I had a couple. I check settings to make sure I had it set to 24/7 recording. 2TB HD might as well use it. So We ordered a pizza, I had the unit connected to a monitor right next to my computer and I figured hey I’ll see the pizza guy pull up and then go answer the door. About 5 mins later the screen went black and said Lorex and I realized no camera feed. I checked the power cables next to me restarted the system camera came back on. 10 mins later feed loss again. Do some research - I even un mounted the camera made sure connections were good - still kept having this issue. One of the suggestions was a bad HD or bad power. Check the cables connection etc, try different power plug. Did those. The HD suggested opening it up and disconnecting HD - but a 13 day old unit shouldn’t be needing this plus I wasn’t going to open it up - sounds like a great way to void return / warranty. So instead I left it go another day see it it still happened after I checked the cable in the attic and tried different power source and it still happened. So that was day 14 I was out of time to trouble shoot it was keep it or return it - so I took it back the next day. Had they worked properly I’d be posting a much more favorable review.

"Loading" right out of the box
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My situation: I had an outdated night owl system that used BNC, so I bought this Lorex set so I can just use the existing BNCs and just swap out the cameras and DVR. The first 3 cameras were installed: the first one worked great, so I went onto the second one--also worked great; then went onto the third. Then I came back to check out the images. The first camera feed now flashes "loading/Lorex" back and forth. Then the second camera started doing it. Only the 3rd camera stayed on/functioned properly. So basically 2/8 cams were defective, possibly more; I'm not going to waste time installing the rest. The thing is, the first two cams worked initially, then seemed to have stopped after several minutes. I Googled the issues, found Lorex instructions to try and swap out ports around (good for bad, vice versa), did that and the bad camera still displays "loading." Tried swapping power supplies, even using the new included power adapters, still no cigar. Firmware says Up to Date. Did a factory reset, no cigar. So at this point, I think the cameras were defective, after troubleshooting according to Lorex instructions. Unless a miracle happens after this review, I will be returning it for another brand (maybe Swann). Thus far: The good: great pictures, even night time. The bad: defective cameras; loud DVR fan (I can't comment on the rest: I haven't even gotten to the phone app, or check out the recording, IR detection, motion, etc.).

Not good quality
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not impressed at all with the image On these security cameras. Also, DVR has to be connected directly to a modem/ router. It has no WiFi connection. I waited to long to install, since I had to get somebody to do it for me ( hard wired) now I can’t return them. These cameras are a total waste of money!

Great deal for this level of performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lorex - 8-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System - White I am not a security camera expert although I do have some personal experience of my own having setup a few camera systems in the past. Most of my experience has been with wired and wireless IP cameras systems. They both have some advantages and limitation which made me want to try a package like this Lorex system. My current setup has been wireless outside cameras that have their own batteries. They have worked well but if you have to many notification your battery life suffers. So you have to be very careful what you allow to trigger them. Also they have to be mounted high enough so they are not stolen. That means you can plan on getting a ladder out every few months or weeks to charge the batteries. A wired IP camera like this wired Lorex system is still restricted as to where you can run the wiring. But unlike the Lorex system if you have more than a couple IP cameras you risk slowing down your home network with camera traffic you might not care about. This is one area where a true wired solution like the Lorex system excels. It’s always on and recording and the only time it affects your wireless network is if your viewing them on a phone or tablet.. Which of course you wouldn’t need to do that unless you get a notification or your just watching them because you can. The wireless IP cameras give you a lot of flexibility in where you might mount them, but that doesn’t do away with the network traffic or pulling out your ladder every few weeks. In this review I felt getting the cameras professionally mounted was the only true way to review them. I had the camera install quoted by several companies. Not one of them had any concerns that I already had the camera kit and I only wanted them installed. This seems to be a very common request and in each quote that was never an issue. I had prices quoted starting from around $85 to just over $100 per camera. Best Buy also quoted the installation and although they were competitive in the pricing I went with a local company only because of there lower pricing and excellent online reviews. My home is a two story and I could only install three of the four cameras because of the limited access in the attic to run the wires. Still I have almost complete outside coverage and much more than my wireless setup due to needing to place them so I could access them regularly. The actual install was about one hour for each camera. The security company that installed the cameras knew the Lorex brand very well and had nothing but good things to say about them. They were very impressed with the quality of the 4K images as was I. Also being Lorex they knew the software interface and although I really didn’t need any help on the configuration they could have helped me if I had needed it. I had already setup each camera and tested each one before they were installed. I had them setup to be viewed by my computers, tablet and phone before the install. When viewed on a monitor connected directly to the DVR you have a very comprehensive software program. I could go on for pages on the options I have including how and when the cameras send me notifications if specific zones detect motion. My wireless cameras has some of this capability but nowhere near the level of control I have with the Lorex system. I also must say the speed of the image cannot be compared in how much faster it is then the IP cameras. From my prior experience to get this level of security camera software that supports up to 64 cameras would easily exceed the cost of this whole package even adding in the installation. There is some very good free security camera software you can get but you will spend quite a bit of time learning it and setting it up. If you have cameras from different supplier that maybe a better option but I have to say it would still be hard to be the plug and play solution most people want and even with that you are not likely to get the amount of features packed here. This is really a great camera system for the price. The installer also commented on how much he liked these cameras and that’s all he does all day. So you really are getting a professional package here and if you have a single level home you may not need a professional installer. I am just getting a little old to go up 20 feet on a ladder and my attic is not a friendly place to do any work. I still have some final adjustments to make on setting up camera zones so I get accurate notifications but I am not having any issues streaming to my phone and the image quality over the wireless battery cameras is much better. Often you see news stories where they show camera images and you wonder why they don’t have a better image. I am sure you can pay for a better image but you are giving up very little here. I am very satisfied with the quality of the cameras, software and tools provided to access them. This is a great package that I can expect to get many years of service from. If you are a DIY person or do what I did and get an installer to help you, this package is an excellent choice.

Professional quality features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Lorex surveillance security system is an excellent investment to protect your loved ones and your property. If you have decided to invest money in a security system, it is wiser to get a system which gives the best protection and which will be reliable. This wired system can provide that, and it has the latest technology to view on a mobile device. The instruction is good enough and gives every detail of the installation process. After connecting the cameras to the base/DVR and the power is turned on, the rest is simple; the system has a setup wizard that guides the rest of the process. After everything is complete, you have live 4K recording and a great surveillance system watching over your property. Wired vs. Wireless: Wired systems system can be a bit challenging when running cables from the base station to the cameras, but this effort will give you a professional quality installation. The wired system doesn’t require batteries, thus eliminating the frequent hassle of removing, recharging, and replacing dead batteries. A wired system is more reliable because cameras with dead batteries can’t record. Another possible issue is that batteries may leak, explode, and lose recharging capability; which will require future additional expense replacing them. Sometimes it is tiring, or we forget to do the task of replacing batteries. Compared to wireless, the wired system has less chance of the signal being hacked or manipulated. Lorex connects to the internet for instant mobile app video viewing and camera configuration but if there is a concern about having a security system on the internet, this Lorex system function well without connecting to a network (it is optional). Installation Recommendation: Connect all cameras to DVR to see that they work properly before running the wires throughout the building and attaching the cameras to the wall. Having this system power plug connected to a UPS battery backup would be great for when there is a power outage or when a thief cut off the property’s power. If the 60 ft (ca. 18 m) cable provided with the kit is not long enough for your setup, Best Buy sells longer 4K video cables. I use a hammer drill run each camera wire through the wall, then I ran all wires on the ceiling of the inside, and I covered all wires with crown molding- the house is now more secure, and it looks nice with new crown molding. Conclusion: A wireless system might be easier, but I have mentioned a couple of trade offs for going that route. A lot of DIY systems use cloud storage and charge a monthly service fee. The Lorex system records 4K quality, has an internal 2 TB hard drive, and the video are viewable on a mobile device. The setting can be conveniently controlled using the Lorex Home app. With the app I have turned on/off notification on some cameras, set preference for motion detection area “SmartZone,” and set schedule for continues recording. Overall, this a DIY surveillance system with professional quality features. I like it!

Q: QuestionWhat is the FPS (frames per second) information for this system?
Asked by FPS.
- A:Answer It SAYS 30, but 4K cameras right now use 7 frames per second. 7 is the most you can select in the recording menu, which coincidentally can only be accessed through an Internet Explorer 11 web browser, not the Lorex mobile app. In fact, everything related to camera settings, recording settings, hard drive, network, etc - can only be accessed through IE11 on a desktop Windows computer- and that's only after allowing some components to be installed (ActiveX) which are no longer supported by new browsers (like Edge, Chrome, etc). You basically have to figure out the DVR's address on your network, go there in IE11, and then you can see the menu. Unfortunately- turning down the camera recording setting to 5MP, 3MP, 1080P, 720P, etc DOES NOT change the frames per second choices. If you hook up an older 1080P camera to the system, it will allow up to 30 frames per second, but these 4K cameras do not. Even after selecting lower resolutions, confirming, and refreshing the menu - 7 is the max you can select. This means crystal clear 4K backgrounds, but blurry moving people and cars.

Q: QuestionWhy do a battery symbol Be blinking off and on on one of my Lorex cameras
Asked by William.
- A:Answer Low DC voltage will cause the battery icon to appear as well as cause poor performance at night when the IR leds are active for night vision. Check your Power connections for that camera and the power supply. You may need a higher current power adapter if the length is excessive.

Q: QuestionCan this system be set up to send a beep notification to my iPhone if someone is in my yard at night.
Asked by Alert.
- A:Answer I have the 8 camera 4K Lorex System. I have my system set up to send an email whenever motion is detected to my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. This camera system will also send notifications through the Lorex App to your smartphone with a link to playback the review of what motion was detected. I turned it off because it got to be worrisome after a while. If you need to use this feature, I strongly suggest you enable motion detection with ONLY people and vehicle.

Q: QuestionGreetings, I purchased the Lorex 8 ch 8 cam 4K uhd system. I hooked it up and when the screen came on, there was no change. It says " LOREX Welcome" on a blue screen. The mouse pointer works but nothing happens when I double click for the menu. ??!
Asked by David.
- A:Answer I had this problem, turns out the monitor I was using was 720p. Once I hooked up a 1080p monitor a small blue arrow shows up in the bottom right corner. Problem is too low resolution on TV. Would be nice if LOREX would show this on their FAQ, almost returned the system!

Q: QuestionOne of the questions already answered said that the cameras were NOT water-proof. This seems odd for an outdoor security camera. Can somebody please confirm whether or not the cameras are water-proof, or at least water-resistant?
Asked by Randy.
- A:Answer If by waterproof you mean can they be installed outside where they will get wet, then yes. I installed mine last week and since we’ve had a couple days of good downpours and there have been no issues with the cameras or wires at all.

Q: QuestionDo you have to have internet service, a computer or monitor or can you just view the cameras with your cell phone? Thanks
Asked by Security29501.
- A:Answer You need a monitor connected to the DVR to setup the system. Once it's set up, you can use the monitor to view the cameras without internet service. But, if you wand to view the cameras on a cell phone, tablet or PC you need internet service.
