A: The biggest difference I see is the way the head is controlled. The advanced model has standard arm controls and the Action tripod has a pistol grip with a thumbwheel lock. Most photo purists will like the arm controls while the pistol grip is quick and easy but less stable.
Q: Will the clasp hold an ipad?
A: No, it won't open that wide. Only enough for a phone sideways.
Q: Is this tripod good for panning? I've seen a couple reviews that say otherwise
A: It’s not a fluid head, but for the price it’s fine. I’ve used a canon 7D on it and my iPhone. The size and weight of 7D works better on it. IPhone pivot point and lightness makes it more susceptible to vibration etc. Overall I would say if you are panning most of the time while shooting, spend more to get a fluid head that also has a quick leveling mechanism and built in level bubble.
Q: Can the phone be mounted in a portrait position instead of landscape?
A: Yes. The provided phone mount is on a swivel so that it can easily be adjusted from landscape to portrait.
Q: Does tripod have a bubble level at top?
A: No and I agree that it should for $100 tripod. I wouldn't recommend it.
