A: When you purchase McAfee and your subscription expires, we continue to protect you with the version you had installed at the time your subscription expires. However, we have a staff of engineers who spend their entire time looking for threats and finding ways to counter them. They find on average 8 new threats that have never been seen before every second of every day. We are constantly updating our software to protect against the latest threats that have emerged. If you do not purchase a renewal, you will no longer receive these updates and will be vulnerable. It costs a lot of money to continually stay ahead of the bad guys and the renewals pay for that. So you can have a base level of protection for a one-time purchase, but that protection will become less and less secure the longer you stay at the older version level. We do not recommend this. A: You can install it yourself - no need to take it in. For the first time, take the download code you receive from this purchase to https://www.mcafee.com/activate. Enter the code, setup an account with McAfee, and then the installation should begin. It will ask you if you want to sign up for auto-renewal, but this step is optional and can be skipped if you choose. Once it is installed, to install onto additional devices, just log into your McAfee account from the device you want to protect and click "Download" from the home screen. You could also send yourself an email or text link from by clicking on the "Protect Other Devices" tab and then typing in the address you want to send it to. Then you can click on the link from the device you want to protect to begin installation. Q: Does this product come with a secure VPN?
A: Yes, if you sign up for auto-renewal. It is a free benefit of signing up for auto-renewal, which does require you leaving a credit card on file with us (McAfee). You can change your auto-renewal settings at any time by going into Settings, Auto-Renew Settings and then moving the slider to the appropriate position. We charge you 30 days before expiration, but we warn you 60 days before expiration that we are going to do that. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Q: do you get emailed the code, or does this come in the mail?
A: This is the "Digital" version, meaning it will be emailed to you. The physical box version comes with a code inside that needs to be mailed. Please let me know if I can help with anything further.
A: Your subscription begins when you download/activate the product. It technically starts when you setup your account with McAfee, which is the first step in installation. If for some reason, the download process is stopped before it finishes, your subscription would still begin on the day you setup the McAfee account. A: There is actually no difference between them now, other than device count. They used to have different features, but over time, those have merged and now they are the same. Buy the one that is on sale! They have features that make them more attractive than some of our other products, like parental controls, password manager and file encryption. With auto-renew enabled, you can also access VPN and Identity Theft Protection with these products. Both of these products offer all of those features. Q: What will be the yearly renewal cost. I recently canceled a subscription because the cost doubled.
A: I purchase a new McAfee from Bestbuy when it is on sale a few weeks before my McAfee subscription expires. I download it from my Bestbuy account the day my old McAfee expires. I do not auto renew my subscription from McAfee.
A: Yes! The codes never expire so you can keep them as long as you like. If you buy the exact same package as you had before, McAfee Total Protection 5 device, for example, you don't even need to wait for it to expire.
