Q: What was refurbished on this item. What does that mean? Was it just returned so it is an opened box?
A: An "Open Box" antenna is a refurbished antenna. We know that our product works really, really well for some customers and just will not work at all for others based on their location. In many instances people will purchase an antenna without making sure that they are in a good location to pull in over the air signals first. They try the antenna, see it won't work, call us and we tell them that they are in bad location for signals and have them return it. Once we get it back we open the package, clean the antenna (if necessary) and always test the antenna to ensure that it is 100% functional, repackage it and sell it as "Open Box" or "Refurbished" at a discount. These antennas have the exact same warranty, guarantee and returns policy as a brand new antenna. Since they are not "new" we can't sell them as such but it is a shame for a perfectly good antenna to get discarded when it was never truly used and that performs exactly like a new one that hasn't been opened. Instead we opt to pass the savings along by discounting them.
A: You may have to try several antennas before you find the one that's right for you. The mohu leaf 50 is the most versatile that I have found. I have two windows both facing the beach. Live on the third floor of a 4-story building. Best reception is in the kitchen on top of the refrigerator facing upward and functions as an attic antenna would. No windows in the kitchen. I have a new Toshiba 4K Fire TV and the antenna works even better with this newer flat screen TV. Tried two or three cheap imitation Leafs which didn't work at all. Getting 20 to 45 stations and I am located on the space coast in Florida.
Q: Does this unit receive both UHF and VHF signals?
A: Yes! The Leaf 50 has a 20 mile digital VHF range and a 50 mile digital UHF range.
A: It will be the same with this antenna, it's made of plastic/rubber and will warp and eventually crack. Put something between the glass and the antenna such as a bamboo beach mat, woven table placemat etc. Nothing made of steel as it will affect the performance of the leaf.
Q: Have an old tube type tv,am 35 miles from nyc,will I get reception,2,4,7,9,11, channels.
A: Probably not. Everything is a digital transmitted airwave now. You"ll need a digital to analog converter. My advice is to buy a new "Smart" TV. A friend of mine bought a 42 inch 'Smart" flat screen HD at Best buy for $200.
A: Yes, it comes with everything you need. This is my second refurbished mohu 50. the last one I had for 7 years. The best leaf antenna in my opinion. Works as well as the large attic antennas.
