Synopsis

Monsters, Inc.
After exploring the worlds of toys and bugs in the two Toy Story films and A Bug's Life, the award-winning computer animation company Pixar delves into the realm of monsters with its fourth feature. Hulking, blue-furred behemoth James P. "Sully" Sullivan (John Goodman) and his one-eyed assistant Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) are employed by Monsters, Inc., a scream processing factory. It seems that the denizens of their realm thrive on the screams of kids spooked by monsters lurking under their beds and in their closets. It's the job of Sully, Mike, and their co-workers, including sarcastic Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi), crab-like CEO Henry J. Waternoose (James Coburn), and lovely snake-headed receptionist Celia (Jennifer Tilly) to keep the frights flowing. When Sully and Mike are followed back into the monster world by a very unafraid little human girl named Boo (Mary Gibbs), they are exiled to her universe, where they discover that such a modern-day mythological specimen as the Abominable Snowman is a fellow refugee. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

    One of Pixar's finest

Monsters Inc is one of my favorite Pixar movies, it was actually the first Pixar movie I ever saw! Monsters Inc shows us that the monsters that come out of the closet to scare children do so because scream is a source of energy in thier world (called Monstropolis) and that said monsters are more scared of the children than the kids are of the monsters. Sulley (played by John Goodman), a top scarer with Monsters Inc. accidentally brings a little girl (who he calls Boo) into Monstropolis and uncovers a sinister scheme. What follows is lots of light-hearted fun and a few thrills as Sulley and his friend Mike (played by Billy Crystal) race to stop the plot and return Boo to her home. The animation was state of the art for it's time and still looks great today. Monsters Inc stands alongside the likes of WALL-E and Up in terms of animation. The visuals look even better on Blu-Ray! The lines are sharp and clear, the colors are bright and vibrant and the animation looks even more fluid in Hi-Def. Some of the in-jokes in the background are clearer in Hi-Def. The monsters themselves look great, any one of them would be a great toy! The DVD extras are included in the Blu-Rays. The extras include some animated shorts, highlights from the Monsters Inc company play, the employee handbook and lots of input from the guys at Pixar on how they made Monsters Inc. There's a great Blu-Ray exclusive called 'Roz's 100 Door challenge'. This game is a combination of movie trivia and puzzle solving (some of the puzzles are really challenging). By playing this game, you can find out where you fit in as a Monsters Inc employee! Monsters Inc is a great movie the whole family can enjoy. This movie is well worth the upgrade from DVD to Blu-Ray and is an essential addition to any Blu-Ray collection.

This is one of my favorites. In this movie, we learn that the monsters that come out of children's closets at night are even more scared of the children than the kids are of them. We also learn that they come out of the closets because screams produce energy in thier world (Monstroplois). The story follows Sully, a scarer, Mike, his beachball-shaped side-kick and a girl who comes into Monstroplois accidentally. Along the way, Mike and Sully uncover a sisnster plot and race to stop it. Monsters Inc. is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. There's plenty of light-hearted slapstick and some more intellectual humor. The humor is well-balanced and done in a way that both children and adults can enjoy. The CG animation was state-of-the-art when this was made and still holds up today. Pixar keeps raising the bar with their quality of animation and this one has some of the best animation to grace the silver screen. The design of each monster is very well thought out and executed. Each monster is distinctive and any one of them would make a great toy. The extras DVD is packed full of great features. There are documentaries on the making of Monsters Inc and some exclusive animated shorts. I loved 'Mike's New Car' and the scenes from the Monster's Inc comapny play. It even has the Monsters Inc company handbook. Monsters Inc is an ideal film for family entertainment. It is neither violent nor frightening (it warrants its 'G' rating) and adults can enjoy it along with children.

    Great Children's Film

Pixar has always done a wondeful job in making quality films that appeal to both children and adults. Monster's Inc wonderfully twists the tale of kids' fears of monsters. The animators put the same quality in constructing this 2 disk special edition dvd. The extras on the dvd are just as entertaining as the film itself. There are tons of behind the scenes featurettes that go through the process of making the computer special effects. One of the things I loved most is that they put in little secret easter eggs that you can easily fine by playing around with the disc. One such secret bonus is the video of Pixar's first annual "paper plane show"! You get to see the voices behind the characters, including the adorable 3 year old girl who plays Boo. You will get a kick of how they got her to say the lines in the film. This is a great film and a great dvd as well.

Monsters, Inc. is the largest scare factory in the monster world and the top kid Scarer is James "Sully" Sullivan, a huge intimidating monster with blue fur, large purple spots and horns. His Scare Assistant, best friend and roommate is Mike Wazowski, a lime green, opinionated, fiesty, one-eyed monster. Scaring children isn't such an easy job--monsters believe children are toxic and that direct contact with them would be catastrophic. Inside the factory can also be found the factory's crab-like CEO, the beguiling serpent-haired receptionist Celia and the sarcastic chameleon monster, Randall Boggs, who schemes to replace Sully as Monsters, Inc.'s top Scarer. Visiting from the human world is Boo, a tiny girl who turns the monster world upside-down.

    Perfect Blu-ray quality

This is already one of my favorite Blu-rays, as the picture is incredible. I got this with Up today, and as I haven't watched Up yet, I can't say this for certain - but of the 100+ Blu-rays I already own - this is by far one of the best looking/sounding ones. For those of you who haven't seen it, this movie is fun, fantastic, and very moving. The acting is terrific, and the plot successfully draws you in. After calibrating my TV a little again using the THX Optimizer included with any Pixar Blu-ray, the picture was amazing. Seriously - buy this movie. As Professor Frink of the Simpson's says, "the colors, children! Look at the colors!"

Great classic but this is the fourth 3D movie we've purchased that was originally put out in 2D and have discovered that something happens in the process of turning it into 3D that makes any fast movement in the movie shakey and blury. The faster an object moves the blurier the image - to the point that after a few minutes you feel a little nauseous. This has been universal for all 4 of the 2d to 3D movies we've bought. At least we were able to return the last two movies we purchased that were remastered in 3D due to this problem. I was so sad because I had been waiting forever to see Monsters Inc in 3D.

As an adult I enjoy this movie, but my just over 2 year old twin girls are split. One loves the monster movie and the other is scared of it. I'm no movie critic or expert on the rating system, but with some of the language and somewhat scary monsters I question if it is better rated PG. When I think of a G rated movie, I think of one that children of any age could be comfortable watching, not showing/teaching them that monsters come out of their closet or from under the bed to scare them. I think we'll save this one for a few years down the road when it will be fun to watch for everyone again.

    My favorite Disney/Pixar film

This film has the pitch from me as the only Disney film I have seen in theaters since I was a kid. It is the favorite so far of the Disney/Pixar releases. Music ALTHOUGH IT WON AN OSCAR FOR RANDY NEWMAN, does nothing for me. I am not a fan of his. Wonderful characters. A true sign of a good film is when it has scenes you can watch more than once when viewing on DVD. To me the scene when Sulley thinks he is watching Boo go through the garbage compacter & the looks on his face are just priceless & I will watch that several times during a DVD viewing. Wonder when Disney/Pixar will release this again on DVD?
