Good solid phone, some drawbacks.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second unlocked Moto X4 and I like the phone. This is the Android One version so it gets it's Android updates right away. It's got decent processor speed and the 64 GB version has plenty of room to install apps. I have a 128 GB SD card to store music, photos, and other media. 64 GB internal is simply not enough for that. One of my beefs with this phone is that the Google Assistant sometimes breaks. I would say these problems are unique to my particular model, but they appear in my other Moto X4. The command, "Listen to the news" (which starts streaming audio from news sources I've selected) only works about 60% of the time. Otherwise, it just shows me search results for news. This requires a restart or clearing the cache from the app. When I click on the mic (rather than saying, "OK Google", it responds, "Call ended" and shows search results for that phrase. Nothing seems to immediately fix this; it just starts, and then fixes itself. I have the phone security set to unlock the phone when saying "OK Google". This has NEVER worked (it has for all my other Android phones). I took the phone to T-Mobile (my current carrier) and they could not figure it out. Often, "OK Google" does not work at all. This requires a restart for it to work again. There are other issues with the security settings that sometimes just don't work, and then they work again. No rhyme or reason. As I understand it, these are known issues for the Moto X4. All that being said, it's a decent phone, even better for the price. If you can get past the voice bugginess, it's a good choice.

Great phone for the price, and then some!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Moto X4 to replace my broken S8. I didn't have a lot of money and I wanted the best for the price. At 199$. This IS that phone! It has a quad core chip with 4gb of memory and it shows. It's more responsive than my S8 and doesn't have the bloatware. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and its still very fast with decent battery. It will last most of the day with heavy usage. Definitely the whole day and some of the next if I only check it to send texts, look something up, and put it away. Screen is nice and the blacks look like it's an LED screen even though it's LCD. The camera has decent quality. My only gripe is that the home button in the front is just a finger print scanner. You have to use the on screen home button. They disabled the Motorola controls for this one that allow it to be a home button with swipe features etc bc of...... Licensing...... If you leave the default display settings you have very little screen real estate on websites bc you have the stupid on screen bar always there. To avoid this I set the font size to large and display size to small. This opened up the phone a lot more. Everything is still readable and the bar on the bottom is much less invasive. I also used the new pie menu and that works better if you can learn it... It's a little less invasive. The only other option is to root it and install a different OS build which voids the warranty. I was going to do that but most people seem to just switch back to the stock OS anyway in the end bc they like it better and I have to say... It's pretty darn good. Although for those wanting to do that, apparently there's also an LED light in this unit that can be turned on if you do that. Again though, if those things don't matter, and you don't want to risk killing the device, I would just change those display settings and use what they gave you bc it's stable and has some nice features. Overall excellent phone and better specs than the Moto G7 for less $ and it has NFC which I believe the G7 doesn't, though the G7 does look nicer in my opinion. For under 300$ unactivated category, this is the winner at 199$

Former iPhone user converted
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been using iPhones for a decade and kept having issues with storage bugs that Apple couldn't fix ("system" taking up over half of my internal storage /causing me to not have ability to take photos, download apps etc) I was nervous about switching to Android since I had never used another type of smartphone before, but decided it was worth the risk to be free of the ongoing problems I had with Apple. I am so glad that I did! I got this phone on sale for $150/64GB. Ordered it for store pick up, which was a breeze. Set it up/switched my number over via the Verizon website. I updated to the most recent version of the OS (Pie) and have found the interface to be every bit as easy to navigate as what I was used to - and now I have access to so many features that I didn't before. I went on a trip shortly after receiving it and the camera took great photos at Disney World and Universal Studios. I even got a shot of the entire Space Shuttle Atlantis at Kennedy Space Center using the wide angle lens - something I was never able to do with my iPhone 6. Charging with the Turbo Charger is incredibly fast and the battery lasts SO much longer than my previous phone. I brought a power bank to the theme parks with me and didn't even need to use it after a full day of taking photos, video and using the app for maps, fastpasses etc. I am thrilled about the IP68 water resistance and had no hiccups on water rides where I'd normally need to bag my phone. I am also very pleased that it is unlocked. I am on Verizon and considering a switch to Project Fi, which I can easily do with this phone. As someone who is switching from an iPhone 6 and who uses a smartphone quite a bit daily, I feel confident about highly recommending this phone to others.

Very Versatile Phone for a Great Price
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've purchased numerous unlocked Motorola phones from Best Buy for use by myself and family members through the years. Recently purchased 2 unlocked Motorola X4 (64GB/4GB RAM) phones from Best Buy and could not be happier! Using them with prepaid Verizon service. Phone charges very quickly, battery lasts all day with typical mixed usage, calls are clear, camera is excellent for a mid-range cellphone, expansion slot for micro SD card capable of expanding to 2TB! Very few phones come anywhere close to this level of expanded memory. The IP68 rating means the phone can withstand sweat, rain, drops in the pool or deep puddles, etc with no adverse effects. Was able to update to Android 9.0 just using automatic update pushes. The fingerprint reader is very handy for everything from locking and unlocking phone access, logging in to numerous browser websites (banking, medical portals, etc), as well as custom applications. Size is ideal at 5.2". Plenty of display real estate while still easily slipping in a pocket for carry. My past 5.5" and 6" phones were difficult to pocket. The X4 had a unibody metal frame (no torquing or twisting which prolongs phone life and greatly reduces chance of screen cracking). The Gorilla Glass display AND Gorilla Glass back panel give the phone a very solid feel and offer great protection. SUMMARY - for those of us unwilling or unable to drop $800 - $1400 on a high end iPhone, Pixel, or Samsung, this phone is a perfect compromise between price, form, and functionality. Purchased mine on sale for $199 at Best Buy (normal price of $419) - incredible deal! Even the staff at the Verizon store where I established service didn't believe me on the price until they looked it up and saw for themselves. "You won't find ANY remotely better phone in any brand for that price" was the Verizon manager's exact quote! Go for it if it's time to replace your defective or outdated phone!

Great Phone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was not in the store to purchase this phone. I went looking at two others. I got into the store, looked at a couple of other brands, another phone from this brand, and this one on display. I bought this one because I liked the speed of the processor, how smooth the screen scrolled, 4 GB ram, 64 GB memory, 2.2 G octacore processor, IP 68 water resistance, everything seems to be working great, the least space taken up by preinstalled software of any phone I looked at, and it upgraded to android 9(Pie). Switching over from the old phone to this one was easy. I removed my existing sim from my old phone, placed it in this one, and started it up. I followed the instructions, placed my old phone next to it, linked them up wireless, data copied to new phone, and my Google apps all downloaded. I did have a few contacts, I had to send manually, but the transition has been painless, since I knew all my passwords. I purchased two of these, the wife got new phone fever in the store, and she is happy with hers also. I ran out of space on my old 16gb phone, too much factory installed stuff that could not be removed or transferred to the sim card.

Great Phone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this phone I was looking at the Moto G6 but liked the specs on this phone , Have had it for 1 month , The web site says 3 GB of Ram but it came with 4GB which makes it a bigger plus. For a Mid grade phone the is a nice phone . It responds well and good battery life and charges fast with Turbo mode. Love the finger print sensor, This is a Android One phone which is unlocked and does not come with the pre-installed apps from your carrier which most people never use and can never uninstall. Make sure you buy a case the phone is very slippery since it has a glass back. The only negative it does not have wireless charging. But I still gave it 5 stars . Mine has already updated to Android 9.0

Excellent Mid-range phone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great Mid-range cell phone. This isn't a flagship phone like a Samsung Galaxy or an iPhone, but this is still a good device for the price. It's a bit small in the hand if you are used to larger screen phones. The bezels are more akin to last gen phones and you'll find more screen real estate from the g7 line from Motorola. Decent camera that struggles a little with wider angle shots but not enough to complain about regularly. This unit upgrades to Android Pie which is a nice perk. The SnapDragon 630 is pretty snappy and the phone decently fast for Mid-range. I noticed a slight performance increase from my previous Moto G5S Plus which used a SnapDragon 625. Not sure if it'll play demanding mobile games but it will hold it's own with games like Summoner's War. The Moto actions are also a neat feature allowing for some cool motion and gesture based controls. The UI is near stock Android with only a light Moto skin on top. This still has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and this is one of the few Moto's that supports NFC! If it's on sale, definitely a good buy.
