Synopsis

Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service was the somewhat redundant official title of this popular "procedural" series during its first season on the air. Mark Harmon tops the cast as the rule-bending, intensely private Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the head of an elite NCI team specializing in solving baffling crimes related to US Navy personnel. Gibbs' cohorts during this season include tough, outspoken Caitlin"Kate" Todd (Shana Alexander), former Baltimore homicide detective (and flagrant womanizer) Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), caffeine-addicted, goth-girl technogeek Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette); and all-knowing, long-winded chief lab technician Donald "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum). Though the two-part pilot episode was filmed for the military-legal series JAG, it was not shown until several weeks after NCIs proper premiered with its debut episode "Yankee White" (in the pilot, Robyn Lively is seen as Viv Blackadder, the character that eventually morphed into Abby Sciuto). Its plot involving a mysterious death during a flight of Air Force One, "Yankee White" introduces several recurring characters: Alan Dale as NCIs director Tom Morrow, Joe Spano as FBI agent Fornell and Pancho Demmings as Ducky's assistant Gerald Jackson. Another frequently seen character, Special Agent Paula Cassidy, first shows up in "Minimum Security", while Gerald Jackson's ultimate replacement Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen makes his bow in "Split Decision". Finally, "Sub Rosa" marks the initial appearance of MIT-educated lab tech Tim McGee (Sean Murray), who would join the cast as a regular in Season Two. The series' second episode, "Hung Out to Dry", is something of a crossover, with Patrick Labyorteaux appearing in his JAG characterization of Lt. Bud Roberts. "My Other Left Foot" is a reunion of sorts for onetime St. Elsewhere regulars Mark Harmon and Bonnie Bartlett. And "Bete Noire" introduces the series' most vicious antagonist, Ari Haswari (Rudolf Martin)--Hamad/Mossad double agent, terrorist, master of disguise, and ultimate assassin of one of the show's best-loved characters. ~ Hal Erickson

When playing either Pathfinder or Dungeons and Dragons at a friend's place on Saturday night was often the only times I would catch this show. While I have cable, I'm not a fan of sitting through shows because of the commercials. I had been wanting to go back and see how things started with this series and I was not disappointed. I really love all the actors and how well they work together. But you even have nuggets of the show working together to keep a timeline going. I find that absolutely smashing!

If you like the original CSI series, you'll like NCIS. Great diversity of characters - each with their own eccentricities. The character "quirks" are endearing and the shows humor makes this work on multiple levels. Limiting the story lines to the military adds to the show rather than detracts. It will leave you wishing you'd bought all six seasons at once!

I fully enjoyed watching the first season - I had never really watched this show and am glad I watched the first season - fast paced, humorous, yet serious; characters work well together. very different from the CSI series, but it catches you from the beginning and you have to continue watching. Mark Harmon continues to show his amazing talent

This was an impulse buy, I love the series but it had been so long since it first was on the market it was unusual to find the 1st season available. A very happy surprise as you get to meet Gibbs, Ducky and Dinozo and Abby as they solve cases for the NCIS. Can't wait to get season 2 and the rest.

NCiS is a great TV series. I never get tired watching these. While you can watch many of these on TV, with commercials, there is nothing like owning the series and watching them in order. I now own all of the past seasons - this was one of the sets that I was missing. I can't wait to own the current season.

I have been wanting to get the series and caught these on sale. I am enjoying watching these when there is nothing else I want to watch. We have Dish Network and when the weather is bad we usually lose the signal and like to watch DVD's!

I am a huge fan of NCIS and I wanted to slowly buy all of the seasons. I opted to buy the DVD's because I wanted the subtitles but there were NO subtitles although the description clearly states that there are. Had I known this, I would have purchased season one on iTunes instead and spent half the money.
