My residence already has a built in home alarm system , perimeter security cameras, and perimeter laser beam system (sounds fancy but the beams are actually a second system which was more common about 20 years ago and I've upgraded them) along with other private security measures I don't list publically. In addition I have Nest cams inside the home and pointing outside the home. With all of that I still purchased this Nest secure system because it covers some bases the rest don't. I can't tell you if this can replace all other types of systems but I can tell you that adding it to your security arsenal does really work out. The capabilities and usefulness goes way beyond what's advertised. Easy to view logs allow you to track every time any movement or sensor was tripped. As opposed to just tripping sensors this device will allow you to know the back door was opened and at what time for you to retrace events in real time or in the past. Looking through my security cameras even focusing on just motion takes a lot of time but using it with conjunction of the accurate Nest secure sensors I can really piece together every detail of a any moment. Also, because this uses the cloud, this system actually helps protect and home alarm and security camera system. You can come in and disable a home alarm and destroy the camera dvr box but the nest secure will log this information in an outside server untouchable to criminals. Also Nest cams can cover the areas of the DVR and home alarm stations through the cloud as well. I also bought a second device as a gift for an older lady so it was important this was easy to use for all ages. The unit has worked well in every way for both of us. If you are used to the old hard wired alarm systems you'll be happy to know the foundation of having to enter a code still exists as an option but controlling the device through key fobs or your phone will be used equally as often. The reason this was selected over all other competitors is because I was thinking long term. This is part of the Nest family which is owned by Google. Even if you can argue these new systems are similar to each other you can't really believe the smaller companies are going to be able to keep up with technological advancements. Other than Alex/Amazon products I really don't think many of the other security systems will be around in 5 years. Moreover, you really want to get Nest cams which work within the same app.

I am not sure what's going on with people given "one star" on this product. Before you purchase the item, didn't you do some homework? Before I bought it, I also considered Ring, ismart and Samsung ADT, I know Nest can only be place on a flat surface, not on the wall, because there is a sensor to detect people on the main guard device. The main device is not huge, but will be too fat if you put that on the wall, unlike nest thermostat or ecobee or other security panel, the built in speaker is great. And all the nest detect works great. If there is something I don't like, that will be the detect is a bit too pricey, typically for the sensor, it is $20-35, and I dont really need all sensor to have "quiet exit" function. Also the camera subscription is expensive, while Ring offer $10/month flat fee for all the ring cameras installed, Logitech charge $3.99/month for each camera and Amazon icloud camera charge $9.99/ month for up to 5 camera, Nest charge $10/ month for each camera! That is really expensive. Other than these two things, installation is easy, and system runs well ! And it looks modern and great.

I purchased the Nest secure to replace my iSmartAlarm that I've been using for two years now. Features I would like to see on the Nest that is not found on the Nest: panic feature in the app (when triggered would immediately set the alarm and notify users), audible chime when a door opens in the house, ability to set the volume of the voice feedback (feel the audio should be a little louder, especially when you enter the house and ask to enter in the passcode). Overall I was extremely pleased with the setup. The step by step instructions was intuitive and simple just like my other Nest products such as the Nest Cams and thermostat. The reason for purchasing the device was so I can get a seamless integration all in one app. One thing I do not like is arming or disarming the nest secure is not available when I open the app. I have to scroll down to my entryway, click on the Nest guard button, then I am able to arm/disarm etc. It makes it very inconvenient especially when I would like to arm it after forgetting to do so when I am driving to work. One really nice feature is that it comes with a mount to lock the power plug into the wall outlet, this prevents intruders from easily unplugging the Nest and disabling/stealing the system. This was a major problem with the iSmartAlarm, when the alarm goes off you can unplug the device and disable the siren. One comment, if you would like to plug in a Google Home mini on the same outlet as the Nest Secure....good luck, the locking mount is so bulky that you can only plug in the Nest secure. Real bummer because I like to ask Google to turn on the lights when I come Home. Lastly, at the moment there is no smart home integration. I would like to see smart lights turn on when I disarm the device or when a door was opened. iSmartAlarm had this available with IFTT, but I am assume you all can do better with Google Home integration.

We love our nest cam and nest home security system. Install was super easy! And it operates as expected 99.9% of the time. We have had a few issues, such as the camera going offline from time to time. But I think that has been more an issue with our wi-fi than the camera itself. We also had an issue with one of the Nest Detects malfunctioning, as it said the battery was dead. We replaced the battery and the same thing happened the following day. We returned it without issue, and haven't had trouble since. We've called customer support a couple of times, first when we were setting it up and trying to get our Nest Aware 30-day trial period started, and then when the Nest Detect malfunctioned. CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS AWESOME! You talk to real people, who are really helpful, and actually care about resolving your issue and making sure you're happy. The camera is clear and crisp. Despite the issues people have with it picking up wind and leaves, etc. I don't mind that. I'd rather get a few false alarm notifications on my phone, than have something bad happen to my home. The notifications are also super easy to check on your phone. I just swipe to view in my home screen on my iPhone, and if I don't see a person, I know it's a false alarm. If you're looking for something to make your home feel safe and secure, this is definitely it!

As technology goes, setting up the Nest Secure could not have been much simpler. Using the QR code to launch the install was very easy. Being able to move to a system that is "portable" was an important selling point. Taking a security system from one home to another is going to be wonderful when we relocate. Additionally, the system is so civilized. Our last system produce anxiety whenever we would come home. The shrieking until we punched in the access code was only annoying to us. No burglar would have given it a second thought as they robbed us. Allowing us to control when the police are called is another plus. Sure, if you have a break-in you want the police notified immediately, but to be perfectly honest, our last system went off once or twice because we failed to enter the code in time and both times the alarm monitoring company called our house first, asked for our password before summoning the police. Not exactly reaching out to the police immediately. The mobile app is also excellent. Allowing us to even arm or disarm the alarm when outside the house. It also reminds you if it senses that you have left the house, but didn't set the alarm. We love the comfort and peace of mind that we have with the Nest.

I finally have security the way it should be

I own a home, and also rent another home. I don't want to have to think about home security, but know I should have it. All the other options are big and clunky. But it needed to work, and not require a bunch of passcodes and wall drilling. I also wanted something that seamlessly integrated with my other nest products. Nest overdelivered. This is their best product since the thermostat in my opinion, although I also like the smoke detector and outdoor cams a lot. The app upgrades are nice. It's not cheap, but neither is your security and it truly is a 'smart' product. I have not opted for the pro-monitoring service which seems too expensive for a brand (Moni?) I haven't heard much about. That said, I found the alarm to be loud enough that my neighbors could hear it, so no worries there. Really nice job, I just wished they had it built in to Google Home. Duh! Why the two companies don't work together more often (isn't Nest owned by Google?) is crazy. Again, as a stand alone, or as an addition to the Nest portfolio, this one is a winner.

This product was a breeze to set up. The nest app guides you through the entire thing. Just like my outdoor cameras I simply scanned the QR code to add the new device. Everything regarding arming, disarming, and turning the alarm off is a simple touch, tap, or button press away. The hardware is sleek and stylish while being surprisingly rugged. My roomba pulled it off my entryway half wall on day one and it had no I'll effects or even a scratch. I have different options for disarming the alarm whether it be tapping the sensor with the key fob, entering my pass code, or using the app on the phone. If I forget to turn it on its very easy to arm from my phone. This also pairs well with my outdoor cams to record video if there is any motion detected. The only drawback is that it detects motion from my roomba or my dogs and goes off. I kennel my dogs about half the time and I simply rescheduled my roomba. I could probably solve both by simply moving the sensor higher but it hasn't been much of an issue.

So far, we've been using the Nest Security system and it has really put our minds at ease. The camera will push notifications when it sees movement, so even cars trigger emails, but it's nice that the camera is always recording. Nest Secure is crazy easy to use and setup. We have animals, so the motion detection has to be completely turned off. Nest has a setting for pets, but even with that setting the cats are still triggering the false alarms. It is a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion compared to some of the other options on the market. Plus the fact it integrates with our other Nest / Google products is a huge win in our book.
