The NETGEAR 8-Port Multi-Gigabit Smart Managed Pro Switch with 10G copper/fiber uplinks automatically detects which speed is needed by the connected device and provides the adequate speed. As opposed to regular 10-gigabit switches that will only provide 1-gigabit connectivity to any device that require less than 10G, MS510TX gives the exact speed required, with no downgrade. The multispeed switch ports can connect with regular CAT5e Ethernet cables without the need to upgrade to CAT6 wiring, reducing wiring costs and inconvenience. This switch includes two multispeed Gigabit RJ-45 ports that support 5G, 2.5G, and 1G; another two multispeed Gigabit RJ-45 ports that support 2.5G and 1G; four 1G RJ-45 ports; one dedicated 10G RJ-45 uplink port (which also supports 5G, 2.5G, and 1G); and one dedicated SFP+ fiber uplink port that supports 10G and 1G.

Great Switch on path to 10GbE
This switch works great right out of the box and you have the option to take control and manage all the ports etc. switch offers a nice variety of speeds as you upgrade your network. 10GbE for the backbone or any device and two 2.5GbE ports plus two 5GbE ports in addition to four 1Gbps ports. Nice blend and all can toggle down to 100MbE if needed. The 10 GbE SFP+ port will need a module to convert it to to use copper Cat6 orCat7 cables. Modules (transceiver) can cost between $20 and $300 depending on how you want to use the SFP+ port. This switch cost $269, so, the value could have been better.

A great way to set up a cheap NBASE-T network
NBASE-T (ethernet speeds that fill the gaps between 1G and 10G) is a long overdue network standard that is massively faster than traditional gigabit ethernet, but adoption of speeds beyond 1G has been very slow due to the insane expense and power needs of 10G ethernet plus the fact that 1G ethernet has been plenty for most people for a long time now. This is my first NBASE-T switch and it does everything I needed. I have three 2.5G NBASE-T capable computers, two of which are file servers, and this allows me to connect all of them nicely. I even have a SFP+ 10G port if I want to link up my existing Mellanox 10G setup to the switch! It's not a cheap piece of hardware compared to the 8-port 1G switches on the market, but for NBASE-T, it's cheap and well worth the cost and lets you move up to 5G if you ever need to do so.
