    Synopsis

    Nymphomaniac: Volume II
Beginning precisely where the first film left off Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac: Volume II finds the sexually insatiable Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) recalling her sexual exploits into adulthood as benevolent bachelor Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård) nurses her back to health following a vicious attack. Willem Dafoe, Jamie Bell, Mia Goth, and Jean-Marc Barr co-star in a film featuring Stacy Martin as a young Joe. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Nymphomaniac: Volume I
A brutalized young woman recalls her many sexual exploits to the kindly bachelor who nurses her back to health in this sexually charged drama from acclaimed director Lars von Trier. When Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård) finds Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) clinging to life in a darkened alley, he brings her back to his apartment, and begins tending to her wounds. Meanwhile, comfortable in the company of the benevolent stranger, Joe finds her thoughts drifting back to her youth, and her dramatic sexual awakening. A self-professed nymphomaniac, Joe's vividly erotic stories gradually reveal her to be an intensely sexual creature whose carnal appetite knows no limits. Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Udo Kier, Connie Nielsen, and Shia LaBeouf co-star in a film featuring Stacy Martin as a young Joe. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

After Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Anti-christ and others, you really have to wonder what director Lars von Trier's mother did to him. It really often just sucks to be a female in Lars' upside-down but always intensely cinematic worlds. The exploitative title and lurid story line move in surprising directions with some real stand out performances from the large cast. Uma Thurman is GREAT in her one incredible scene. Christian Slater delivers a strong turn as a man who is terminally ill and Stellan Skarsgard is memorable as the patient listener to brave Charlotte Gainsbourg's kinky exploits. While there's some redundancy in narrative points and a few too many obvious erotic "set pieces" designed to shock the demure, Nymphomaniac has an engrossing tone that, like a car accident, is hard to look away from. There's a chronic urgency to everything that keeps most of the film compelling as Lars makes another attempt to struggle with understanding human despair and loneliness. Not for everyone and certainly not the director's best (or worst} work, there's enough here to chew on that makes it worthwhile and memorable. Keep in mind, this film is unrated and sexually graphic so folks that are uncomfortable with that sort of imagery should stay away.

Like him, love him, or hate him, Lars Von Trier has been responsible for some of the most interesting cinema in the past 30 years. His newest effort, Nymphomanic Vol I and II have courted controversy and received some acclaim. Both parts tell one single continuous story that total four hours. It's a large investment but it's sure to sear itself into viewers memories with some moments that push the boundaries of what most expect to see in a film. It's not pornography but it is explicit in a way that most films wouldn't dare be. This two disc set gives you both films with beautiful transfers and a small selection of special features. An uncut version is due later this year and will probably the version to get for those who enjoy this film.

This is one of the most controversial films to be produced within the confines of Motion Picture Cinema. It also stands it's ground as a brilliant character study of Joe, the namesake Nymphomaniac. The Blu-ray picture quality is very high, with bitrates reaching an average of 35mbps. The audio quality is also great for both discs. The special features are simple, but the upcoming director's cut should surely make up for the lack of in this set.

This was an impulse buy. I saw the title and couldn't resist it. When I got it home I told her: "The title reminded me of my "High School sweetheart". She said: "Hey, I thought I was your High School sweetheart?" I told her 'She was, and she still is". This is s great date night Video. Actually its several great date nights. Watch this with someone who loves you.

My friend doesn't own a Blu Ray player but really liked the movie. I'm not sure why. I like Lars Von Trier generally, and really loved Melancholia in particular. But this particular installment of the so-called "Depression" trilogy was overlong even if, at the outset, it's interesting. There is only so much degradation you can take in one movie.

Wow... Was not expecting such a graphic movie sold at Best Buy. This movie could have easily been given an "X" rating. The 2 movies (Part 1 and 2) are both VERY LONG and SLOW MOVING. The movies tells a story about a female who is a nymphomaniac and shows each step along the way. I was surprised at what the movie actually showed.

I love the way this movie begins With distance sounds of a train and water dripping and then The story begins. There is nudity , some funny and some not so funny, downright painful. And it all has to do with things that really happen in real life. It's worth watching and you'll be surprised.

It's a dark and quite riveting thriller of an erotic variety. The sensuality of Emmanuelle that has some over the top moments of an adult nature. This isn't for the faint of heart and does carry quite a dark take on the world of obsession and the one of mental illness
