Q: Can I get a high quality picture being mounted only 8' away onto a 120" screen?

A: Yes, I have a 135 inch screen with the same projector and it fills the screen at less than 12 feet away, its designed for short distance. It also comes with the adjustment for short throw distances The picture is great, no complaints after 3 to 6 months of use

Q: I might be missing it in the specs, but I was wondering does this projector works with wireless speakers?

A: I have this projector and no it does not work with wireless speakers. It does have an audio out to send audio to a receiver, but your reciever would have to send wireless audio to speakers.

Q: How exactly is this "Optoma - UHD50X 3D ready"?

A: The projector works with many (if not all) DLP Link 3D glasses. I purchased mine from another online retailer and they work great. 3D Blu-ray Discs are hard to find, but they’re still out there.

Q: Shouldn't the contrast ratio be 500:000:1 as oppose to 50:000:1 (according to the specs)?

A: Dear Customer, The correct contrast ratio is 500,000:1 for this model projector. If you have any further questions, please contact Optoma technical support at 888-289-6786 Monday - Friday 6 AM - 5 PM PST for further assistance.

    A little overpriced.

This unit is a nice video game projector with tons of features.... That don't work. It's HDR but only the bare minimum. My Xbox one x is set at 2% on the HDR setting, any more washes the screen out. Getting a good picture is a chore. The brightness has to be low and the contrast very high. But when you dial it in games look great. Movies on the other hand don't look as good, especially dark scenes. It's game mode looks terrible and using it locks out all the settings. Even things like keystone adjustment. But I didn't notice any extra lag in normal modes so I just don't use it. The 2.0 HDMI is super annoying in that it constantly searches for signal. There is a signal lock in the settings but it won't let you change it. Also anything less than 4k content on the 2.0 HDMI looks really bad. I assume this is because of it using the better 4 mirror matrix (8.3 million pixels) and not the 2 chip pixel shifting. The 1080 HDMI works fine but it's a 4k projector so I want to use it as such. The 3d works fine but if you don't need that you can get the UHD30 for cheaper. I have this unit in a pitch black theater and it needs it. Any light at all really hurts the image. All in all it does its job but it's low latency game mode is useless and that was it's biggest feature. I would recommend spending a little more for something great or a little less for something just as good.

    Reviewed with a heavy heart...

I wanted to like this projector. I still want to like this projector. But since it arrived it only projected dissapointment vs cinematic grandeur. I currently have a basic Epson 2030 1080p projector. Nothing fancy. To me it looks pretty good and the whole family enjoys it. That is my reference point so you know the bar is not that high. This projector, on its highest settings was half as bright as the epson. Now keep in mind this thing is rated at 3400lumens whereas the Epson is only 2000. Yes, I know LEDs vs DLPs will behave differently with white light and colors. The rating disparity vs the reality was too much to ignore. I honestly think something was defective with this unit. I hope that was the case. It was much too dim for its ratings. Adjusting brightness, never brightened it, it only washed out colors. Even the "bright" setting had no effect at all. The lens also had a scratch or crack on it. I cant tell, but who wants that. On the plus side, the detail was incredible - when you could discern it. There was no light band around the edges that so many folks complain about. Then again there was not much light anywhere to speak of. Well, except on the cieling. If Optoma could harness all the light that leaks out the side through the fan vents and use that on the screen then they might have a winner. The fan was quieter than my epson on normal mode to normal mode comparison. Didnt even try ECO on the Optoma as I wouldnt have been able to see much at all. At first I thought I was crazy. Maybe it was just me. Then my 9 year old came in, not know anything about a new projector. He took one look and asked "whats wrong with the big TV screen?" I knew then it wasnt me and that I was not paying $1600 for this "upgrade". Checked cables, checked settings, etc. Hooked 4k Roku directly to this projector and matched it to a my old one. Results in pic show UHD50x on left, the Epson in ECO mode on the right. The epson was so much brighter that the photo actually got a little oversaturated. To Optomas credit, they agreed with me that it shouldn't be like this. they offered to look at it and replace it. However, having just bought it, that would have made it ineligible to return, a chance I was not willing to take. They were great, and honestly this review is for them - PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. On AVS Forums there are lots of folks who love their UHD30s and UHD50x and lots who say they are the worst thing ever. I have to hope its just issues with this new model. I may try again soon, but for now, lets hope they take note. Their support is the only reason for 2 stars. Buyers beware - check our your unit as soon as you get it. You may get lucky and get a winner, but dont let you return window expire and be stuck with a dud.

    Stunning

I purchased this unit after owning other projectors with 1080P resolution. The Optoma is an absolute winner, currently showing a 120 inch diagonal image in UNBELIEVABLE 4k resolution. Every high-quality video that I have played through this unit is truly breathtaking, and the brightness in a properly darkened room is actually startling when you see it in person. At 6 inches from the screen, individual pixels are impossibly small and perfectly clear. Completely worth the price of admission. Shown next to a 50 inch LCD in attached photo for size comparison.
