    Synopsis

    Poltergeist II: The Other Side
One of the more effectively spooky and financially successful horror films of the '80s got an inevitable sequel with this effects-heavy installment. The Freeling family is trying to grapple with the devastation wrought by the ghosts and ghouls that destroyed their lives. The insurance company doesn't believe their story about what happened to their house, so Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), and their kids, Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) and Robbie (Oliver Robins), have been reduced to living in the home of Diane's mother, Jess (Geraldine Fitzgerald). Unfortunately for the Freelings, however, their new residence, just like their last, is situated on a haunted patch of unholy ground. A century before, the mad cult leader Kane (Julian Beck) slaughtered his followers nearby, and his evil spirit has returned in an effort to kidnap Carol Anne. When the Freelings realize what's happening, they call upon the psychic medium Tangina Barrons (Zelda Rubinstein) to help them again, and they also receive aid from a kindly Native American spiritualist, Taylor (Will Sampson). Noticeably absent from the sequel was older daughter Dana, who had been played by actress Dominique Dunne; Dunne was killed in 1982 by her obsessed boyfriend. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

The original movie is a complete classic and no sequels really needed to be made but you know the 80's and the way they used to like churning out the sequels, poltergeist 2 is no where near as good as the original but it is still a great fun 80's horror with minor scares, the effects still look cool and there are some good practical scary effects etc, the credit is mainly due to the great cast from the original all returning to play their roles again as the family having to protect their daughter Carol Anne played by the talented Heather O Rourke who sadly passed after filming the third poltergeist movie (which was a better sequel) this sequel adds many new things to the mix and gets a bit messy and wasn't really well thought out but its still a fun 80's movie and has all the classic formula, check it out of course if your a fan of the series, its still better than the remake (2015) Lots of great special features from Shout Factory. So much better than the no frills MGM release. The Shout Factory edition is the only one to buy.

being a huge fan of the original, the sequels got worst as time went on. yeah it was great seeing the family again (minus dana since dominque dunne who played her was murdered by her boyfriend after she filmed the original), and the midget psychic tangina, but it lacked the tone, suspense and feel of the original. this time around we get a medicine man indian played by the wonderful will sampson of one flew over the cuckos cuckos nes, who help the family battle the evil reverend kane aka the beast from part one who is still after carol anne to bring her into the light. he tries all matters of spooky ways including my favorite, the tools attacking the car. but in the end it fell flat. however, the bonus content makes up for it and gives great insight to the making of.

this is a solid sequel to the original though it has issues in the final act. The special features are decent though it was disappointing not to have any interviews with Craig T Nelson, Joe Beth Williams or the writer or director. but for the sake of fine childhood memories I would recommend to anyone who grew up on movies like Poltergeist II

As I mentioned in my Poltergeist review I was buying movies for my horror collection & as a completist I had to buy part 2 even though it's not as great. The movie still has a few creepy parts & for the price of $5.99 I figured sure why not. Luckily part 3 is being released on Blu ray in January so my Poltergeist collection will be complete.

Poltergeist is one of the absolute best horror movie. Most sequels are big jokes and insults to the original one, but not part two. It tells the whole story about the haunting why its occurring and why Carol Anne is a big part of it. I believe everyone that loved the first one should definitely watch the second one

I always liked the second Poltergeist better than the first. There were more creepy scenes in the second one that kept you are the edge of your seat. As with the first one, the Blu Ray by 20th Century Fox was excellent! They did an absolute great job considering the age of this movie.

They did a fantastic job on this one. Watched on my 60" LG 4k with my 4k player. Clear detail and texture. Pure blacks. I give this one a 9 out of 10. Great film! Great buy.

What can you say to a follow up to a classic Horror such as Poltergeist! It was an eerie sequel that definitely deserves to be seen by fans of the first one. I got this on sale for 9$ and it was a steal. The bluray PQ was pretty good considering age.
