A:Answer As long as you have a cable/satellite "box", the remote for it should be programmable to control the TV. I have DirecTV and Mediacom, and both remotes control primary functions of the TV (i.e. volume, mute, input & power), and the "cable" remote controls the channels/features of the box. So program remote to control TV, and tuck TV remote away. I have had wonderful experiences with both my Insignia's being able to be controlled by DTV and cable remote. If you don't have a "box" (also called a reciever), this TV remote will allow you to go up & down channels at various speeds to get to your channel of choice
