If you have another TracFone and you are just getting a new TracFone but keeping your number, the minutes you had already squirreled away will transfer too. However, if you are just straight up getting a new TracFone, get a card while you are there. I don't recall any codes being included in the box for starter minutes.

I personally don't like contracts and credit cards, so I go to the local grocery store and get a prepaid card, scratch off the hidden code, call the 1-800 number and load my minutes and days that way. There are plans you can get if that is for your style. I imagine you'd have to allow them a credit card on file, though. But I really don't know about the Tracphone plan possibilities. When you purchase the prepaid card, you get various amounts of minutes and ALSO various amounts of days. When I first started with this phone, I only used it for emergency backup. I always had lots and lots of minutes, but was running out of days. I needed to purchase the prepaid cards just for the days. But now, I use it for calling, too. I tend to run out of minutes before the days. So, to save on minutes, I text. I do not do data/internet on my phone at all. I've seen that Tracphone does have data plans, too. But I don't know anything about that.
