The base station does not have a battery inside. If it did, you still would not get a video out if your power went out, because your router would not have power. You can purchase an uninterruptible power supply and hook up your router, cable modem, and base station to it. That way if the power goes out in your house, you still have power to all the components that need to be working to get the video out.

There is the option to use AC power but the battery life is so much better than I could have imagined. 3 of my 5 cameras still have over 50% charge remaining after 2 months. The cloud storage is more than sufficient. No DVR is necessary.
