This is a 2-in-1, meaning it goes all the way back like a tablet, and will actually switch to tablet mode, disabling the keyboard (but not until you go past 180 degrees). So yes, you can tip it back as far as you need to. I think the hinges are quite good, very smooth. The computer itself is thin and you have to be somewhat gentle when manipulating it or so it feels. But from what I can tell, it's as sturdy as any laptop would normally be.
