QuestionHow does one go about getting warranty service for this router? Contacted ASUS customer service on chat and they say go to Best Buy Geek Squad. I go to Best Buy and Geek Squad says they don't honor router warranties. Frustrating!

- Answer This is a router only and a separate cable modem is required to connect to cable internet services. DOCSIS 3.1 is relevant only for cable modems. The router connects to your cable modem via ethernet cable(s) and this router provides both a 2.5Gb port and 2 link-aggregated 1Gb ports for this purpose.

QuestionHi, We are switching internet providers and need a new modem. With our old system we used the Netgear Nighthawk AX1800 wifi system to boost internet in our home. Would that still work with this modem? Thanks in advance for your help.

QuestionDoes using the 2.5gb port provide up to 2.5gb speeds. I have gigabit internet, overprovisioned to about 1.2gb and I have a 2.5gb NIC in my desktop computer; so does connecting thru the 2.5 port get me over the 1gb speeds I get now?

- Answer The single 2.5Gb port is either/or configurable, so you can use it either to connect the router to your desktop NIC or to your WAN interface, but not both. The router also has the ability to link-aggregate two of the 1Gb ports (WAN port and LAN port #4) as your WAN interface for an effective 2Gb link if your ISP-facing device supports that type of connection.

- Answer As long as your current modem provides enough channels for your Internet service, any router will be compatible. This one is a good choice if you don't want to wait for wifi 6e (and have devices that can take advantage of that.)

QuestionHas anyone tried using this router with Oculus AirLink? If so, does it work well? Looking for a router upgrade that enables me to use that.

- Answer I use it with the AirLink on my Quest 2. No issues with latency or speed. Granted, when I use it, I'm within 10 feet of the router. Haven't tried any further than that.

QuestionI see that there are two USB connections. If I connect two drives, is there a way to set the router up to automatically backup drive 1 to drive 2?

- Answer I don't think that is possible. A better setup is to connect the drives to a computer and access the computer remotely. For security, I would keep one of the drives disconnected, in case there's a virus or the system is hacked.

- Answer I have mine placed behind mine as well, been going strong for at least 2 years. However, for optimal performance. It best to place it in an elevated area.

- Answer Yes, the RT-AX86U supports OpenVPN (with encryption) as both a client (for connecting to a workplace,etc) or as an OpenVPN server (so you can have your local clients like mobile phones connect over OpenVPN). Its easy to setup using the VPN tab in the routers webUI.

- Answer It might, but a lot depends on how much interference you will be subject to from your A/C ducting. If you find that you have signal degradation over that span, you can alleviate it by using a pair of TP-Link Powerline Ethernet adapters and adding a 5 or 8-port Netgear switch at the garage TP-Link Powerline adapter terminus to provide the necessary additional wired ethernet for your garage gear. I would also recommend you set up and assign static IPs for all your devices. It will save you many headaches.

- Answer The RT-AX86U is backwards compatible. The firewall can be setup by logging in to the router web address and using the router application to turn on the firewall. I used the ShieldsUp website to test mine and it passed all the port tests.

- Answer I have 100% maximum Internet WIFI Speed in my 2100 sq. ft. home. - Please see my review - If you need more coverage, convert your older ASUS Router into a bridge off of your new ASUS RT-AX86U Router.

- Answer I own the RT-AX88U router and it was recommended to me by NordVPN cs. Set up is quick as long as you follow their step by step guide on the NorVPN website and choose ASUS router
