“Is an optical drive able to be installed in this laptop? I saw that the i7 laptop similar to this one has an optical drive installed. I was wondering if there is a possibility of buying and installing one myself. Any help is greatly appreciated.”

those are 2 different models you are talking about THE FIRST ONE Q502LA the one with the i5 and no optical drive is the one you are posting your question on which is the Asus Q502LA. with 0.87 inch thickness and 4.85 lb in weight .. THE SECOND LAPTOP Q550LF the Other one with the i7 is the Asus Q550LF .. wich I believe was released after the Q502 ...and has a thicker body around 0.9 inch and has optical drive and weighs 5.1 lb .. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't think so. The one without DVD-ROM is thinner than the one with i7 (I also purchased that) and has no DVD -ROM space. And on its side, it has no open door for DVD-ROM tray to pop open. Unless you purchase another base cover, but it's a lot of hassle.
