Q: Is an optical drive able to be installed in this laptop?
A: those are 2 different models you are talking about THE FIRST ONE Q502LA the one with the i5 and no optical drive is the one you are posting your question on which is the Asus Q502LA. with 0.87 inch thickness and 4.85 lb in weight .. THE SECOND LAPTOP Q550LF the Other one with the i7 is the Asus Q550LF .. wich I believe was released after the Q502 ...and has a thicker body around 0.9 inch and has optical drive and weighs 5.1 lb .. A: A mouse will work on this machine quite well. I currently use a wireless mouse, have the touchpad disabled when the mouse is plugged in and work a full eight hour day without any problem.

A: Me, too!. After some research, I disabled the Asus 'auto-update' feature and set it to manually prompt me when it wants to go surfing for regular updates. I also found out that Windows, and a lot of other apps, have similar defaults set to 'auto-update' which need to be reset individually to stop unwanted wake ups. In addition, most auto-wake-ups never let your PC go back to sleep until you open the lid because it needs to let you know that some form of update was performed, although you must search for specifics of what the update entailed via control panel. I don't like the idea of a ghost in my machine so I set everything to the 'manual update' mode to ensure my laptop stays peacefully at rest. I prefer to pick and choose each update because I have found some to be very questionable and unnecessary. Hope this helps :-).

A: Yes you can connect any external device, I have my printer connected as wireless, not any issues.
Q: How many hard drive bays does this computer have?
A: There is only space for 1 hard drive in this laptop. I too have added an ssd to mine and I am glad I did it. I wish there was space for 2 drives, but as you see in the picture, it just isn't possible. Also, please ignore the balistix ram shown in the picture, this laptop does not come with that memory stick, I added that as well.
