  • QuestionCan this box be set up n used on Canadian towers

    Asked by Petepete.

    • Answer It is designed for use outside of the U.S., but you would have to get it unlocked first. You do that by going to AT&T's website: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/request/#/unlockstep1 If you aren't an AT&T wireless customer, click no and follow the instructions. Once you are approved, att will send you an unlock code for you to use along with the instructions.

  • Questionwhen it says, "Unactivated price' ($199) does it mean 'unlocked', CAN be used with other Carriers? Thanks..

    Asked by Nald.

    • Answer Unactivated price $199 just means you are not on a 2 year contract. There is an unlock process you have to go through even as a non AT&T customer: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/request/#/unlockstep1 select no then answer the following questions and type the captcha then wait for the approval. Once you get the unlock code and the instructions, you can use it on T-Mobile or any GSM carrier.

It can be a postpaid (billed on a monthly bases) or prepaid (you pay beforehand in denominations; i.e. $10 and higher) in the form of debit, credit, or a refill card that have many dollar denominations; and buy minutes it at your discretion. You can refill online or by phone.

  • QuestionCan this be used on a cruise ship for Internet service without additional charges

    Asked by Gabrele312.

    • Answer Short answer; no. I worked on a ship as the telecom officer. It all depends on the port you are at and what equipment is on the ship. Your device will connect to the strongest signal, so even if you are in a port where you can get a non roaming signal you are still on board and closer to the ships antenna (repeater) and then really you are gonna pay for the telecommunications fee on top of your wifi Hotspot plan... My advice is to just enjoy your time away from the interwebs while at sea, and then find a coffee shop with free wifi while in Port.

  • QuestionCan this unite with high end security routers?

    Asked by Ratsue.

    • Answer @Ratsue, that depends on the particular high-end wireless router in question. You will want a high-end, dual-band (AC) wireless router that is capable of either (a) bridging (extending) the wireless network from the Explore or (b) connecting to the Explore via its USB port. You are more likely to find a high-end router than can bridge the Explore's wireless network than connect via USB. I searched for a couple of months and just couldn't find a high-end wireless router with enough benefits to justify a price of $400-500 or more. I already had an Apple Airport Router. The Airport can only bridge the wireless network of another Airport router. So that option was out for me. The Airport's USB port can only be used for a storage device, so that option was out. In the end, I attached a Wireless G Ethernet adapter to the RJ-45 port and connected it to the wireless network of the Explore. The performance isn't stellar, but it functions and it's been pretty reliable.

  • QuestionDo you have to be an AT&T customer to use this?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer There are different frequencies in the radio spectrum that are designated and controlled for use. 4G/LTE for those AT&T customers in the US and Mexico are designated to the 700MHz spectrum and certain channels (sub bands) within this spectrum. This device is designed to operate within those specific spectrums. Therefore, it will only work with AT&T and possibly those other carriers, like T-Mobile, who operate in those bands. It will not work on other carriers like Verizon or Sprint.
