What's up, Walt?? I know tamron makes a few decent "ultra-zooms" , as you describe. Specifically, I have a Tamron, 28-300 on my Canon. You've got to have enough light, though - or crank-up the ISO sensitivty, if your camera can take it. Those ultra-zooms, unless you buy a VERY expensive one - often don't yield "tack - sharp" images - I think it's because there's so many lens-elements involved. Lenses 18-200mm ; 28-200 ; also 18-300 ; 28-300 can be found, by the mfg you name. You just gotta look-around...
