  • QuestionIs this a police scanner or cb radio? Looking for police/fire department scanner for around $100.

    Asked by KimL.

    • Answer You can buy lots of cheap scanners now for about $90.00 but they will be analog models. Since most emergency services now use digital, the analog scanners will be pretty useless. Call your county's non-emergency dispatch phone number, tell them you are buying a scanner, and ask if they are on digital (400 mHz+) or are soon converting to it. Hope this helps.

  • QuestionI have an old model and am having trouble picking up train broadcasts. It has been reprogrammed but still not picking them up. Will this new model be preprogrammed for train signal as soon as it's powered up?

    Asked by trainbuff.

    • Answer Thank you for your question. We would need more details about the previous device you had, but CB radios, such as the HH 50 WX ST, are generally unable to communicate with train broadcasts due to the fact that they function on completely different frequencies. Train communication systems are designed to operate on much higher frequencies, which have been specifically allocated for railroad operations. In contrast, CB radios operate on a lower frequency band that is designated for citizen's band communication. This lower frequency range is intended for personal and commercial use. As a result of these distinct frequency allocations, CB radios are not equipped to receive or transmit signals intended for train communications. • QuestionDoes this cb really require 9 aa batteries? Does it come with cigarette lighter plug?

    Asked by Denray.

    • Answer The HH50 can be powered from either 9 AA batteries for portable operation or use the DC power adapter cord that's included. The DC power adapter has a cigarette lighter plug on one end for use with any vehicle accessory outlet.

  • QuestionWhat is the difference between the 38 and the HH50

    Asked by Joronimo.

    • Answer The differences between the HH38 and HH50 are mainly that the HH38 is an old and long ago discontinued model. The HH50 has basically the same features as the HH38 but has a new look and and user interface plus the radio performance is improved over the HH38 such as receiver sensitivity and optimized antenna design. The HH50 is also built to modern manufacturing standards and is currently supported.

  • QuestionWhat is the distance this will carry?

    Asked by Will.

    • Answer The HH50WXST best range performance with the included "rubber duck" antenna will depend on several factors such as: height above average terrain, power output level, battery pack Voltage level under load based on state of charge, environment such as large city or rural back country and radio propagation conditions influenced by the Sun. All these factors come into play when it comes to range.

  • QuestionJust a follow up to the previous question. Is this a digital or analog scanner?

    Asked by Curious.

    • Answer The HH50 is a CB two-way radio that has a SCAN function that's used for scanning all CB radio channels which are AM only. The HH50 is controlled by a microprocessor that also governs the SCAN operation so it's a digital scanner that scans analog channels.
