  • QuestionConsidering connecting this to a Mac Mini to use as a home file/music/media server since I can't get large internal storage on a Mac Mini. Would this work with Sonos as a music server for the home?

    Asked by DanP.

    • Answer Hello, Thanks for getting in touch. Thank you for your inquiry about using the Crucial X10 Pro 4TB USB-C External SSD with your Mac Mini as a home file/music/media server and its compatibility with Sonos. The Crucial X10 Pro is indeed a high-performance SSD, and it can be used to store and transfer your files and media between your Mac Mini and other devices. However, it is important to note that the Crucial X10 Pro is not designed for 24x7 operation, unlike enterprise SSDs. For continuous, round-the-clock use, an enterprise SSD would be a more suitable option. Additionally, to achieve the best performance from the Crucial X10 Pro, you will need to use a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port. This ensures that you can fully leverage the high-speed capabilities of the SSD. Regarding its use with Sonos, while the SSD can store your music files, you will need to ensure that your Sonos system can access these files over the network. Sonos typically works best with network-attached storage (NAS) devices or media servers that are always on and accessible over the network. • QuestionIs there a separate Thunderbolt cable that can be used with this Crucial external ssd? Will this work with a Thunderbolt port on a Dell Inspiron 16 Plus? What about working on an Asus ROG Zephyrus m16 laptop Thunderbolt port?

    Asked by KoreyS.

    • Answer Yes, yes, and yes lol. It has a USB-C port that supports 3.2 Gen2 2x2 that will work just fine with a Thunderbolt 3 or 4.0 port. The drive is capable of up to 2100MB/S read, 2000MB/S write which is a fraction of the throughput that either USB-C 3.2 Gen2 2x2 or either Thunderbolt ports are able to handle.

  • QuestionWill this work with an iphone 15 pro max directly?

    Asked by Donald.

    • Answer Yes and no. This would be overkill since the Iphone does not support the faster protocols. The usb-c connector on Iphone 15 will only support 480 mbs. It will work but there are cheaper options that will work just as well.

  • QuestionCan you plug this device into a iMac Thunderbolt 3 port? Will the read/write speeds be similar to USB-C?

    Asked by 2railbrian.

    • Answer Your thunderbolt 3 is MUCH faster than usb-c and this will take full advantage of that speed.

  • QuestionWill this work with a Toshiba Satellite a505-s6033 laptop if it doesn’t have any USB 3/USB-C type ports? It only has USB 2.0/USB-A type ports with one also being an eSATA/USB combo. If not, will it support any kind of SSD whether external or internal?

    Asked by suzannesstud.

    • Answer Get a decent USB-A to USB-C Cable and your drive will work at least at a 250-450 mb/s reads 120-200 mb/s writes. when dealing with a Slower usb 2.0 the writes will be about 20-30 mb/s reads and writes. yes numbers will be different, but i tried it on an old & new dell laptops and 30 mb/s is about average with most internal usb-a 2.0 ports. as for esata i don't have any converter to esata to usb-c to test, the internal ssds that are CHIPS look like drams are probaly incompatled (opinion) inclosed are standard sata baseD Magnetic connectors that ive used as far back as win 98s, in 1998 and run well over 300mbs. I no longer stock toshiba pc's to know the full nuance of the company but a cheap cable from usb-a to c is a decent investment since usb-c is prevalent in electrnics today like tour smart phone! download some pics and time it!

  • QuestionCan you use the X10 Pro as a device used for Time Machine Backup with a mac?

    Asked by Nbhargava.

    • Answer You sure can. But it is an overkill if you use a 4TB disk. But if formatted with APFS, make a partition and use the spare capacity. With APFS the partition is variable, depending on the demand of the partitions.
