Companies don’t refer to the capability as waterproof as that comes with a whole bunch of legal technicalities. The watch is water resistant to 50 feet - you can swim wearing it and it will track your laps.

I swam with my watch in a kiddie pool and it stopped working within 30 minutes. Words mean nothing though, here’s a picture. However, Fitbit replaces it for free. And their customer service is great.
