It will automatically record over old video files unless you have pressed the video button to mark a video or the unit marks it for you because it sensed an event. Three 4-5 minute files are saved with each mark; the marked file and the one in front and behind it.

There is no indication of when the card is "full". If you find that you are getting a lot of automatic saves, or if you have manually saved a lot or taken lots of pictures, I would recommend replacing the 4 GB card with a larger capacity one. You only need to reformat the card if you have a lot of saved data on it THAT YOU NO LONGER NEED. You CAN reformat it as often as you like.
