Picture/Sound Quality: Superb Battery Life: Acceptable Gps: Not 100% accurate Originally I wanted to get a Go Pro camera as my dash cam. The reasoning being that the quality would be superb and very easy to keep hidden. I changed my mind after reading online that the gps feature on the Garmin cameras had been used in court to throw out faulty red light tickets and to contest accidents where the perpetrator was blaming the victim for the crash/accidents by making sure that the video in the footage was geo-located at the site of the event. After buying this Garmin Dash Cam I can easily say that it is very handy and brings me an ease of mind when it comes to making sure I have a safety net in case someone tries to blame me for their choices. That being said the only reason that the device gets a 4 star is because the GPS isn't 100% on the dot. It was made more accurate after I updated the Dash cam software but it still needs work. Don't forget to get a 32 GB memory card. The videos it shoots are full 1080p at 60fps. You will need a lot of memory if you plan to store any videos for future use.

I tried a couple of the imported dash cams to save money and sent them back. If you want a dash cam that works do yourself a favor and get the Garmin. It's a little more expensive then the others but it is worth it if you truly want a dash cam that works. The video is crisp both day and night, snapshots are sharp and it just works without constant attention.

Have been using this item for a bit over a month. Overall, I'm satisfied with it considering I got a pretty good deal on it (was on sale and had some BB Rewards bucks to use toward the purchase), but there are pros and cons that potential buyers should be aware of: PROS: -decent video quality (1920x1080 res) that can capture license plates when mode is switched to capture still images -adjusts fairly well to darkness / high contrast situations -easy to mount -quick and easy to calibrate -small size and light weight allows it to be carried very easily CONS -automatically starts recording when turned on. This may sound like a good thing, but it gets annoying when something other than recording needs to be done -prone to occasional freezing if left in coat pocket. This is because is the device's 'on' switch is quite sensitive and will inadvertently power up when someone goes to reach for his/her keys, sits down, etc. Easily remedied by holding the power button for about 10 seconds (appears to be a hard reset), but again, an annoyance that could have been avoided with a better design -buttons are easy enough to use but interface lacks intuitiveness. Takes a little time to get familiar with usage. -4GB micro SD card, which is included, will be used up quickly (about an hour, give or take a little) when shooting at 1920x1080 video mode. Advise users to purchase a card with significantly more memory, especially if driving for long durations -internal battery drains quickly. Using the adapter (included) to plug into car's cigarette lighter becomes a necessity for even modest distances Overall, decent if and only if the price is right. It does what it's supposed to do, but the designers and programmers should be tested for hard drugs...

I've been researching for a dash cam after watching a few videos of insurance fraud crashes and because there are crazy drivers. I looked all over and after reading reviews, this Garmin unit came out on top. It was easy to mount and memory card was a decent size (comes with 4GB but upgraded to a 32GB for 1080p recording). I've, unfortunately, had to use it already after getting backed into and it's great knowing that I have evidence of what happened. Great peace of mind. Only negative I think about this is the Garmin software for Mac. It does not recognize the camera when plugged in and it can be a little tricky to move the files to your computer and converting it to .mp4 format requires 3rd party software.

I got the GARMIN Dash Cam 20 for Christmas. It does record high quality .avi video files on to a Micro SD Card (4GB included). This product mounts on your windshield by suction cup. You can see a road video I did at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njFBhiVIyac. PROS: High quality video, USB connection to PC (cable included), very compact, unique informitive "time stamp," and easy to use. CONS: No pause and stop record functions. Starts recording when connected to your car. No function to turn off "time stamp." OVERALL, it's a great product to record your trips. I would recommend using a 32GB Micro SD Card instead of the supplied 4 GB card.

I purchased as I was always curious about in-window dash cams. This was a very petite clean look camera! HD pictures and video. As soon as you turn it on it IMMEDIATELY starts to record I would've like more control on the start/stop. Comes with cigarette lighter accessory power or has a rechargeable battery inside. I used with a 32gb micro sd card and was able to travel from Virginia to Florida without having to change cards (13hr drive).

Camera operates very smoothly. Does and performs exactly how it should. I like that it comes with two different types of mounts. Only changes that would be nice would be longer cord so you can hide it along windshield and a bigger memory card. With that being said. I would recommend this product to anyone. I would also replace this product if it were to be lost or stolen. If you want a dash cam this should be your choice. This is my 3rd one and the others were cheap and very sub par to this one.

This is a great dash cam. Easy to set-up and use. Great video. But, I'm on my third one. The first failed in ~30 days, just locked up and wouldn't do anything. BestBuy took great care of me and replaced it. The replacement was defective out of the box (it wouldn't turn off). Again, BestBuy took great care of me and replaced it. So far the replacement is working great. And I hope it continues to do so because I love it.

I like almost everything about this camera. It has location, time and speed info inserted along the bottom of recordings. LCD built in for easy framing too. You can take pictures with a press of a button and flag video files as well. What I don't like most is Garmin "Mass Storage" mode. This means you have to use their charger; anything else and the camera prompts to enter mass storage device mode and you have to press cancel every time you start your car. I wanted to do a clean install with a hardwired power source, but oh well. I also do not like the way it marks the videos you want to save. There is no quick and easy recognition. They all look the same on the memory card so you have to view properties of each to find the ones marked Read Only. I started using the command line and attrib command to quickly note the files that are read only. Still a pain. They could have just made a simple file name change for flagged videos... It works and is "OK" but dropped the ball on simple programming to avoid the issues listed above.

I purchased two of these. The camera is easy to set up, just click it onto the window mounting bracket and start the engine. It gives you an advisory warning about distraction and then proceeds to record. It comes with a 4GB card so you don't have to buy one before initial operation. It will not only record your route, but also the time, the date and your speed. You can review your trip in car at any point, or while holding it in your hand outside of the vehicle. For a larger picture with more detailed quality, I put the disc in my computer and it's as clear as HD television. Since nothing is absolutely perfect, these are the drawbacks that I've found so far. The camera has no problem staying on the mounting bracket, but the suction cup on the mounting bracket sometimes has trouble staying on the windshield. The camera has also turned on by itself after having been turned off and placed in my carrying case.

I've been using the cam for several weeks now and I have no complaints. The video is clear, night or day. It's easy to save videos as I drive. When I connect to my PC and launch the software for playback, it prompts me to download the saved videos. I really can't think of anything to complain about. Others complained about the short cord...I'm over it. It hangs down through the center of my car. Oh well. It's not like it would be concealed since it still has to plug in someplace. The GPS feature is nice on playback too as I can see exactly where I was at the time of the video. I can definitely see the advantage of that as I was recently driving in a hail storm and was concerned my insurance company wouldn't believe me if I had damage. I would buy this again if I had to choose all over again.

I found this dash cam problem free. We have two in both of our cars. The first one was purchased in summer 2015 and so far performed very well. The video quality is good and interface is simple. I used to get about 1 hour for the battery life when it was running without interruptions (don't like to drive with the wire in my field of view). With stops it seems to have even longer battery life. My car has a power socket that is always on, so I would recharge when parked. BUT, with the cold weather now, it doesn't charge the battery when it is 20 degrees or lower, so I have to keep it plugged in all the time.

I don't know why anyone would post a negative post regarding this camera. Just plug it in and forget it. It turns on at startup and shuts itself off when you turn the car off. The cord is long enough to reach the 9 volt socket.. It doesn't get in the way of your vision , heck, people are driving around with transponders and navs and they are okay with it! I've read a post about it falling off, cleaning the area and the rubber disk will prevent that. Easy fix. The picture quality is very good and not so bad at night. Haven't had a issue with over heating that many of the other inferior types do, but it's cool this time of the year ( California) so it's a wait and see. Directions indicated it to tolerate up to 140F. Anyway, I'm completely satisfied and would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Easy to use. Turn the car on it starts automatically. Turn the car off, it turns off automatically. Nice bright screen. Good build quality. Lots of settings. You can have the screen on or off when driving in the daytime. Easy to navigate through the settings menu. One knock is that the suction cup is useless in my opinion. It fell off my windshield 4 times in 30 minutes. Thankfully it comes with a 3M adhesive window mount (has never fallen off). I am going to have it hardwired to my car so that there are no messy cigarette lighter cords running down my windshield. It is a little pricier than some other ones on the market, but you pay for what you get here.

this is really a great camera it recordes in 1080p 720p and 480i. You can review the recording with the screen or plug it into your computer and watch it in full screen. the recording has a great picture it shows time date location speed and also audio. you plug it into your USB on your computer it automatically downloads and within two clicks your viewing what you recorded. you can save what you want and delete the rest or you can leave it recording and it will override recording you have not saved so you only need one flash drive memory card. the settings are very easy to wrork and get to it allows you to turn certain things on and off. it even records the license plates of cars in front of you. not all dash cam will record license plates because they have a reflective material the picture is truly great.

This is my first dash cam, and I am very pleased with how it has worked since I bought it six months ago. I had Best Buy install the camera so it comes on when I start the car and goes off about 3 minutes after I turn off the ignition. I spent about $150 extra for a larger SD card, a power cord extension (available direct from Garmin) that is now hidden under the molding and dash, and a few more parts plus labor that Best Buy supplied. The operation is easy and the picture clarity is excellent when viewed on my computer. I know there are many other more expensive cameras available that have more features than this one. But if all you want is to capture video and sound when and if that jerk cuts you off and causes an accident, this is the camera for you. I have not been sorry.

Got this camera due to the crazy way people drive today and the possible need of a unbiased witness. It comes with a tiny 4 gig memory card. I replaced it with a 64 gig card. I got this model due to the gps data being recorded at the same time. Mounting it was easy, just wish it came with a longer power cable so it can be hidden. Play back is very sharp and clear.

Easy to set up. Very dependable and very happy with unit. Received best price from Best Buy plus fast shipping. Set up was very simple out of the box. Highly recommend this product as it has great features that others do not have such as vehicle speed and gps features. If you have an accident, it will tell the whole story if you are in the right or wrong. It can also help you if you get a speeding ticket when you are not speeding.

Simple to install, just stick to windshield. Plug it in. That's it. It turns on and of by itself when you start the car or turn it off. Would be a 5 start except the cord is a bit short, and the plug comes out at an angle to the front of unit, it should go out the back.
