This is the same cord you use in your vehicle with the supplied cigarette to USB adapter. They recommend that you use the adapter. I don't think there would be any problem if the vehicle USB voltage is the same as the adapter voltage. The adapter has some other advantages with like a !/4 plug you can use to connect your vehicle stereo if you can't use Bluetooth. There is another USB port to charge your phone.
