- Answer Yes, the GPSMAP 64 has a compass that is based off of the GPS signal, so for it to work you would need to be in motion. ^DK

QuestionCan I create my own maps?I am looking for a GPS system that I can locate trees (with longitude and latitude) and create my own map and export it as a gpx file or a file i can convert to a gpx file to upload on GIS. Also I am looking for the simplest version of this. something not expensive in the 150-200 dollar range. There is a product called a trimble that does it but it is wayyyyy to expensive. But I am looking for something like that.

- Answer Your GPSMAP 64 does support custom maps. You would use an image overlay to create your custom map which would be a JPEG file. Garmin consumer electronics has accuracy to less than 3 meters (10 feet) on average. As a consumer device, they do not offer survey grade accuracy. Your device also supports BirdsEye Satellite Imagery; a high-resolution satellite imagery that will allow you to view your surrounding area on your GPS and computer. <MC>

- Answer I had no problems following my track back out. I don't believe it has "back track" but it shows you the exact trail you took in and allows you to follow it back out.

QuestionOkay I've never used a handheld GPS. What I'm looking for is a way to mark a point, name it, and save it so that I can return to the same place later. I like gold panning, but water is not always around. So I take samples in bags. And Mark the bags.

Questionevery time i find something im interested like this product "Garmin GPSMAP 64" it says i cn pick up in store, yet i have never once found anything im looking for in any store listed. my question is what is the issue? no stores within 100 miles had them.

- Answer Hi, Yes the GPSMAP 64 does collect GPS data. You would have contact ArcGIS to see if the device can be used with that program. If it doesn't we do have our own program called BaseCamp that you can download your data too. Thanks Chris

- Answer On the GPSMAP 64 you can save a track on your device, or you can select a destination waypoint to see how far you need to go. If you would like to save a track on your device, press Menu twice, select Track Manager, select Current track, select Save Track, enter a name and select Done. <MC>
