“when car charging, must the GPS be in the holder? I prefer not to be distracted by the map on the screen. Can the charger be plugged into the GPS and then the GPS turned upside-down? Or does the charger plug into the holder....and the GPS then plugged into the holder?”

The car charger on the nuvi 52LM will plug directly into the back of the nuvi. The nuvi can be turned upside down, however for proper satellite reception we recommend having it mounted to the windshield. Another idea would be turning the screen brightness down all the way after setting your destination (which can be done through the settings menu).
