Any area you install the microwave would need to have adequate air clearance on each side (3"), the top (3") and the rear (1"), or the unit may not function properly. They do this to help you make any necessary adjustments to the timing for a microwave that is higher or lower in cooking wattage. The difference in cooking time when going from a 1000 watt to a 700 watt microwave is usually measured in seconds not minutes. Start with the lower time and add time as needed.
