Q: QuestionI just had this model installed but I can't tell if it is utilizing my former outside exhaust or if it is venting inside. How do I tell? Right now when it is on, air is coming out of the top of the unit.

• A:Answer I have the same issues. We are remodeling our kitchen and they had to pull the microwave out for work and I was told that a part in the back that should connect to the duct is missing. It is not available through the manufacturer's website and Best Buy was not helpful when I tried to get answers about the part. My contractor said the part was just likely not installed by the installer, or it might not have been in the original box. I don't know as I didn't see everything that was in the package when it was installed. I've passed my return date option, otherwise, I'd probably have it removed and find another microwave.

• A:Answer These are all great questions and we are happy to help! Yes, you can replace your old microwave with this model, however there are some dimensional differences you should be aware of. Your old microwave has these dimensions: 16-15/32" x 29-7/8" x 15-1/16" (HxWxD). This microwave has these dimensions: 16-7/16" x 29-7/8" x 15-7/8" (HxWxD). Yes, there is vent on the bottom of this microwave that can help draw away steam from things that are cooking on a range or cooktop below. We do also offer other Stainless Steel over-the-range microwaves that have more features than this model. We suggest checking out: PSA9240SPSS, PVM9225SRSS, and PVM9179SRSS, to name a few. • A:Answer Hi, there. Great question, and it's great that you are looking to replace your microwave with another GE microwave! The model is the same, but the extra 2 is an engineering code. For example, if you needed an extra part, searching for the model number that is on your microwave would allow you to see the part breakdown for your specific model. All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. - When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. Over-the-range microwaves have an automatic fan feature to help protect the electronic components, and also helps the cooking area get rid of excess heat. The built-in thermostat automatically turns the vent fan on if the unit is too hot, and will not turn off until the microwave is cool again. You will not be able to turn the vent fan off manually during this time. If you are cooking on your range top, we recommend turning on your vent fan.
